That's some of the responses to ganguly's dropping. Amazingly, Sidhu's comment seems the most down to earth and devoid of fancy.
Interesting "panaroma of opinion there

- Deep Dasgupta, current Bengal captain (Mid Day)
- Snehashis Ganguly, Sourav's brother (Deccan Chronicle)
- Sambaran Banerjee, former Bengal player (Mid Day)
- Gopal Bose, former Bengal opener (Mid Day)
- Pranab Roy, former Bengal opener (The Telegraph)
- Ashok Malhotra, former Bengal cricketer (also played for Haryana) (The Telegraph)

- Navjot Siddhu, former Punjab opener (DNA)
- Krish Srikkanth, former Karnataka opener (IBN Live.com)

Strange pattern there. :)

If I lived in India, I definitely would.
Sidhu has been poor off late really, dominating others, not seeing different points of views and generally being as stupid as any one possibly can. Master of hyperbole. He paints a sorry picture IMO but is a hit sadly.

The reason for that probably is most if not all the opinions appeared in Telegraph Kolkata and cricinfo did a follow up story on it. They usually do that. Not sure rgearding this instance.

If commentators were musicians, then Sidhu would be a Britney Spears.

Dunno if that made sense but has anyone else seen any of these talkshows in TV? There seems to be a sudden influx of them with almost every news channel insisting on getting ex players (Nikhil Chopra, Sidhu, Mohinder Amarnath, Sandeep Patil to name a few) and all so meaningless and dumb. Sometimes I get the impression these people spend the days rehearsing pre written scripts.

And I have said this before, I don't relish listening to DD Sport's commentator crew unless they suddenly recruit a lot of proffesionals.

Typical Cricinfo for picking comments mostly of Bengalis, Here are more, If some people can remove their Anti-Bengali Blinkers and read :-

"Sourav cannot be treated like Gambhir ": Srinath (http://cricket.expressindia.com/fulleistory.php?type=ei&content_id=63373)

“If you don’t play, how do you expect to be included. Sourav has to perform at the international level to prove that he is back to his original form.” Debu Mitra
(http://cities.expressindia.com/fullstory.php?newsid=171127)

"This is no way to treat Dada! " - Anand I Naik

“I think it is a strong message. Ganguly's international career is more or less over,” Raju

“I feel sad for him. He is still good. But then, if the selectors felt he should go, then no one can help it,” - Sandhu

“They have sent a strong signal to senior players. The selectors felt Ganguly and a few other senior players have no role to play in the present scheme of things,” - Arshad Ayub

More Reactions :-

“I think Mohammed Kaif is lucky to be in as he has not performed up to potential. Ganguly may not have scored a century in the last Test but he has been consistent and puts up decent scores time and again. It is unfortunate that he is not in the team.” - Vengsarkar

“I am nobody to say whether this is the end of the road for Ganguly or not. But the point is where will you fit him in? When Yuvraj comes back, would you have dropped him again? This cycle has to stop somewhere. " - Contractor

“I feel sad about it, but looking at the future I think this is one of the finest teams to be selected. I suppose this could be the end of the road for Sourav. He does not figure in the scheme of things in one-dayers and Raina has made such a great impact now. I am sure that when Ganguly cools down he also will appreciate it. It’s a sad thing to happen but that’s the name of the game.” - Ashok Mankad

They are atrocious (all these programmes) and the hosts invariably havent a clue about the game but make such grand pronouncements about what should be done that it would be hilarious if it werent so tragic.

Siddhu is a disaster though a hugely popular one which is a tragedy because if he toned down his hyperbole, stopped preaching everything on every subject to everyone, decided that he was a erious cricket commentator and not a stand up comedian and realized that rhetoric and 'Siddhuisms" are no substitute for good language, he would make a very good commentator for he does speak a lot of sense at times. But its so lost in his arm-waving and he is so much in love with his voice and his own 'smart-alec-phrases' that he doesnt spend much time speaking sense.:)

Most of these cricketers are just raking in the moolah and who can blame them.

Well Said Srinath !

Former captain Sourav Ganguly must sort out his standing with the Indian team. The news of Ganguly being dropped is hitting the headlines too often. It does not do any good to his cricket as well to Indian cricket.

A senior player like him should meet the selectors and few senior cricketers to get a good picture on his utility to the side. He cannot be treated like Gautam Gambhir, who could be dropped disdainfully and picked at the same time.

If Ganguly should be matured enough and meet the people concerned, the decision makers should also come out saying how much cricket is left in Ganguly. The whole thing is leaving a bad taste in the mouth.

We need to take a leaf out of Australian and English cricket to know how to handle such issues.

i too kinda get the feeling its like how srinath puts it.

i dont really like ganguly, but hes terrific to watch. and really he should be in the team over suresh raina or kaif, hes still good despite the poor form. i think hes making things worse for himself acting stupid, with so much bickering how can anyone concentrate on the game?

Not that I agree(or disagree) with Ganguly's decision to skip the Deodhar trophy match, what difference is his performance going to make ? The selectors have made it clear that as long as this committee is there they will not take a steop backward (which is fine IMO). After hearing this I dont think a senior player like Sourav will have enough motivation left to play in Deodhar trophy match.

And the time has come to applaud Sourav Ganguly, not mourn anymore his absence for if we do so we will show him disrespect; remember him for his struggles rather than his victories. Ganguly is not a martyr but a fine warrior who has had a fine innings. It is not time to pity him but to celebrate him.

Harsha Bhogle in a superb article on the Indian selections.

Very strange indeed....

Esp. since Srikkanth was a former TamilNadu opener. ;) :D

Juz pointing out a small error.
