Who would other countries choose, Scott Styris or Lou Vincent?

They should both make NZ's ODI team IMO.

Styris preferred for tests IMO, but can't see Vincent doing too worse than Jamie How.

I agree that they should both be in, but at the same time Ross Taylor has earnt a permanent spot in the middle order, and we need to find room for the likes of Astle/Fleming (whoever doesn't open) and Oram, I think it will come to a choice between Styris and Vincent.

And I apologise for probably overreacting in some of my posts here, made it sound like I believe Styris and Vincent are 2 of the best in the world or something. It's just that this is a thread asking for opinions on who people consider the better of the two, and it was a bit annoying and not particularly helpful that some chose to slag off both.

Plus I've just finished work and should really go to bed...

I think he does in the ODI team, he's scored more ODI centuries than any other NZ player in history and had a good home season last year...if I was a selector I'd let him go out on his own terms after the World Cup.

As an Indian fan, I'd choose Styris any day. Styris may have his problems, he may not be as 'talented' as Vincent, but he plays for a purpose. When the team needs a steady innings and a long partnership, he'll do it. When the team needs quick runs, he'll get his running shoes going and even go over the top a few times. When the strike bowlers need support or just a little rest, he'll contribute more than a few overs. Something we don't find in any specialist batsman playing for India. Lou Vincent is in no way different from any of them.

Styris and Sinclair were both born in Aussie, and quite frankly you can have them both back. What happened to being ANZAC mates.?????. You could have sent Ponting or Hussey, or even Gilchrist.........but no...........we get Styris and Sinclair. Shame on you Australia.

Vincent was born in NZ I think but went to Aus in his teens for a few years. He even made the South Aus under19's if I am not mistaken. Staying in Aus for 4 or 5 years doesnt mean your and Aussie. It just means you talk funny.

Fair's fair, didn't NZ contribute Brendan Julien to the Oz cause? ;)

Anyway, I'd take Styris anyday. He'd be a more than useful addition to our ODI team, but think he'd possibly struggle to get a go in tests.

No, I didn't mean that he played state cricket in Australia - I meant that he was good enough to do so. Please read the post I quoted - and the post it quoted - to get an idea of it's full context.

Dunno why everyone is talking about Styris as a grafter, he is a big-hitting stroke maker with a strike rate over 80 in ODIs. Also a good ODI bowler.

Vincent has an average in the 20s and strike rate in the 60s over a long period of time. He is completely useless.

Styris is a very good international player (ODIs at least) and Vincent completely sucks, so this isn't much of a comparison.

He has the face of a grafter, and he bowls in a grafting way so he sends out the general "grafting" vibes but essentially I agree, he is a strokeplayer. Under-rated in general, particularly in one day cricket.

You could make a case for selecting Vincent in front of him in a test match if Vincent was in good form, but that is somewhat of a rarity anyway. Styris is by far the better player overall.
