He was actually good against any batsman who could play spin decently.

Swann is the most overrated bowler. Beneficiary of test spam, playing exclusively in his peak as well as English media hype. On top of all of that, he was a coward who deserted his team midway through a series to protect his average. In fairness to him, if he hadn't done that, muppets who look at pretty averages only would no longer think he was a good bowler.

MacGill was genuine class. Swann was a major benefactor of DRS meaning batsman had to play more with the bat with the increased LBW risk when padding away.
To his credit he utilised it well with a degree of drift and variation. Of course he’s a tosser, but that’s not a factor here.

MacGill was god awful against decent players of spin. No one in the history who was average as such and still ended up with sub 30 average.

He got Brian Lara and Mohammad Yousuf out four times each, plus Shivnarine Chanderpaul and VVS Laxman out three times each. These are not terrible players of spin.

50.8 vs India, 55.8 against SL. In the matches he played against these two teams was utterly dominated, home and away. If he played more against SC teams, that average of 29.0 would have sky rocketed.

Swann is underrated. Won matches in England, Australia, SA, SL and India. Won England a game a series on average. Worldclass spinner and would have averaged sub 25 easy if a SC spinner. Posters forget that 2008 to 2012 was probably the most batting friendly era in England yet he succeeded.
