I’ve seen this mentioned by multiple sources, but no specifics as to what the incident was, anyone have any ideas?

“His image as a troublemaker was thus intensified, and once he and Tony Lock were squarely blamed for some off the field episode that they were not responsible for – and was in fact carried out by the Golden Boy of English cricket, Denis Compton.”

In Barbados two drunk England players pushed a food trolley up and down a hotel corridor then into a lift where the wife of an MCC member was standing. She claimed that when she told them off they jostled her and swore at her. She identified the players as Trueman and Lock, who were sharing the same room.

The two were summoned to a meeting with the captain, manager, the lady and her friend, and told to apologise, which they did. Both were apparently nervous, fearing their careers were in danger.

Afterwards both players denied they were in the corridor or the lift at the time. Trueman claimed the real culprits were Compton and Godfrey Evans, who both had a history of heavy drinking and wild behaviour on tour. However neither had a reputation for swearing and were thought more likely to have tried to charm the lady after she complained.

Opinion was divided. Some players said that Trueman and Lock were definitely involved. Others were aware of what Compton and Evans had got away with on previous tours, and suspected that the younger men might be carrying the can.

Lol @ the suggestion of Underwood as England's best bowler ever. Sure he was a quality bowler who won a number of matches for England and maintained consistently strong averages in many countries, but under 3.5 wickets per match across a long career shows he was generally far less impactful than a number of other English bowlers, including the three in this poll. He is definitely in contention for the title of England's greatest ever spinner, although Verity and Laker usually get ranked ahead of him in such contests.
