Anderson's career average is 23.78 (34.84 in Tests), Nehra's is 33.87 (42.40 in Tests)

Wonder if that's why Anderson isn't described as appalling or absolutely woeful?
Nehra has always been injured and seldom at his best. It's not something like Mohammad Sami's.

The way they've been performing in the last 6 months (and the fact no-one even gave them a hope against the WI - coupled with the praise heaped on them for good cricket by peple who watched the games) suggests to me that it's nowhere near certain that they won't.
Yakyak.....So the way India have been performing in the last 6 months (and the fact no-one even gave them a hope against the Aussies - coupled with the praise heaped on them for good cricket by people who watched the games) suggests to me that the next away win is not far away. Bangladesh were helped by the pitch, dropped catches and poor fielding, mediocre batting and bowling, and lifeless attitude of the Windies. Wonder how much more assistance they would need to win a test against other teams who are much stronger.

i dont see how you could say that they were helped by the pitch when india have been playing on some of the flattest tracks over the last 6 months.

But against Australia the batting was almost even and our bowling weaker than theirs, so it was pretty even. For Bangladesh, their batting would've never coped with the four pronged pace attack so well had it not been for the pitch, the pitch was almost like the one's at home to them. And their slower bowlers were helped by the wicket, the WI batsmen were not.

from what i saw from the perth ODIs it does appear as though the pitches aided india.....also kumble was more effective on those wickets than he would have been had they prepared a seamer friendly wicket. i think even australia realised that they prepared wickets to suit the opposition.

They did aid India slightly, because of their stronger batting. I think the Indian's might've coped with Perth had they played a tour game or sumthin there just to get used to the conditions, because they were caught by surprise. A Test match in Perth would've definitely made a difference though.

It's at least 2 years away...

Bangladesh will have to wait much longer.
Keep saying it, it may come true one day.

England will have to wait even longer for a sub-continent series win.
Even longer?

We won 2 series 3 years ago (and one last winter) - that's nowhere near the 18 years.

I hope Bangladesh win a test match and become a force in Test cricket. But i'm not willing to go along with this stupid comparison with India.

I seriously wonder sometimes what is this obsession with hype among the Indian fans.

HYPE is what has costed us so much over the years. Whenever a young cricketer comes in and performs well, or when we manage to achieve a surprise win, everyone creates a big hooplah around it.

India vs. Australia was a great series, because we played better cricket on occasions, which was alien to us on foreign soil. But ask the question, did we dominate the Aussies? And the simple answer is no. We didn't come even close to a series victory. Though we had the upper hand in Sydney, largely because Aussies had the least chance of a victory, we were never close to picking up 10 wickets, and we managed 6 largely because of only Kumble's effort.

The Australian win over us in Melbourne was more convincing than the one we inflicted over them in Adelaide, the margin of victory shows that. So Sydney Test was the decider, a test of our strength, and we managed to gain the upper hand, which brings the series to even in overall context.

What are we hyping? It's all fact. And this all started with some people bluntly dismissing India's capablity of winning a series outside Asia, and then going on to say Bangladesh have a better chance of winning a test match before India, even if India played an away series now.

Dude that happens everywhere. In every country. Not just in India. And I think the more intelligent of us will know whether a player is just hyped up or really has substance. When we managed a surprise win over Australia, everyone was creating a hooplah around it because they knew it was not just some one-off upset. You can't seem to understand this. You are like almost blind to what's been going on, all you wanna do is look at the series result. The series result was dissapointing, and the Indians were very dissapointed that they didn't seal it in Sydney, and that says a helluva lot. I mean when they went there and after the first day at Brisbane, the headlines read 'Indian summer over'. Who would've thought the Aussies just about avoided a series-defeat?

We didn't even come close to a series victory?! Seriously Sudeep you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. No one really dominated the series, but the fact of the matter is we matched the best team in the world and one of the greatest in history in their backyard. It's like how it used to be with the Windies at home in the 80's, and even one test win over there and the public used to go crazy. Here's a look at how we matched them, and what a clash of titans it was -

Batting
----------
Australia - (2845 Runs)

Justin Langer 121(194), 58(72), 117(149)
Matthew Hayden - 99(98), 136(173), 53(63), 67(88)
Ricky Ponting - 54(88), 50(75), 242(352), 257(458)
Damien Martyn - 66(100)
Steve Waugh - 56(102), 80(159)
Simon Katich - 75(109), 125(166), 77(99)
Adam Gilchrist - No score above 50

India - (2806 Runs)

Virendar Sehwag - 195(233), 72(115), 3 scores of 47
Akash Chopra - No score over 50, though in his case his innings were invaluable
Rahul Dravid - 233(446), 72(170), 49(88), 92(244), 91(114)
VVS Laxman - 75(113), 148(282), 178(298)
Sachin Tendulkar - 241(436)
Sourav Ganguly - 144(196), 73(125)
Parthiv Patel - 62(50)

Bowling -
------------
Australia - (57 Wickets)

Gillespie - 4-65(31), 0-17(5), 1-106(40.5), 1-22(10.2), 3-135(45), 1-32(7)
Bichel - 1-130(28), 0-12(3), 4-118(28), 1-35(11.4)
Lee - 2-103(27), 2-97(22), 4-201(39.3), 0-75(12.2)
Bracken - 1-90(26), 2-12(4), 1-71(28), 2-45(25), 0-97(37), 0-36(8)
Willaims - 0-72(23), 0-34(14), 1-66(20), 4-53(22)
MacGill - 4-86(26.1), 0-32(4), 2-143(44), 2-101(24.3), 3-70(15), 2-68(26.5), 0-146(38), 1-65(16)

India - (60 Wickets)

Zaheer Khan - 5-95(23), 0-15(3), 0-103(25)
Ajit Agarkar - 3-90(25.1), 1-45(12), 2-119(26), 6-41(16.2), 3-115(33.2), 1-25(7), 0-116(25), 0-45(10)
Irfan Pathan - 1-136(27), 0-24(7), 2-80(26), 1-26(8)
Anil Kumble - 5-154(43), 1-58(17), 6-176(51), 0-43(6.2), 8-141(46.5), 4-138(42.5)
Ashish Nehra - 0-51(15), 1-89(19), 2-115(25), 1-21(7), 0-90(29), 0-16(6)

I suggest you read This and This and This and This. Even then if you don't understand that this was one of the greatest series ever, despite the result, ......then I will forgive you for being ignorant and give up.

What happened with Kaif?

After the NatWest series he was a hero. After India's match with Australia in the World Cup, his house was painted black.

Yeah exactly, it's the dumb press who hype up and then incite the dumb public. The more intelligent and aware people will know what's hype and what's substance.

You said it. MATCHED. Not dominate. Yes, we won a Test Match. But do you seriously think we had even the tiniest of chances to win the Sydney Test if it weren't for Kumble's bowling?

Yes, I was talking in that context. Indian fans are extremists. And I meant that's what hurts.

I always said matched. When marc and you started putting it off as an average series in terms of result, then I had to say we dominated in Adeliade and Sydney and Brisbane was even so we played better cricket. I never ever said we dominated the series. And Kumble's bowling was for our team and he was part of the Indian team. What the hell are you trying to say? We had a very very good chance of winning in Sydney. We had a few vital decisions turned down. You are seriously blind.
