Who beats this SC ODI team?

I think it wins pretty easily , white ball cricket is about balance and Aussies get ODI cricket, ..you have variety , power, finishers , amazing fielding side with Waugh , Richards , De Villiers , Symonds, Watson.. don't get why you say they don't bat deep , Watson is coming in at No.7 and he averages 40 while Lee , Starc and Warne are all capable lower order bats ..
Yeah, make Ranatunga bat at #5 and captain. He will find a way to dismantle the Aussie side.

Jayasuriya is a class above Rohit as a player. Rohit may be better with the bat but the whole bowling, fielding package easily makes jaya the better player. And Nah, I'd take Mathews every day of the week over Yuvraj. Similar batters, Mathews is a proper front line seamer compared to #6 place bowler in Yuvraj.

Ranatunga is the guy who has most runs in #5, and he was the best in that position in late 80s and early 90s. Averaged 50 against West indies in that time period. I can imagine if a player like AbDV, Hussey, Bevan or Inzamam replacing him. But Yuvraj, nah. BTW Aravinda is a #4. He is not going to replace Kohli.
Yuvraj and Mathews aren't close as batters in ODIs at all, and he is ahead of Inzi as well. And Jayasuriya is the 6th bowler with 5 front liners. Feel is overkill and would rather have the best batsman.

So many limited overs teams throughout the years punch above their weight because of having crafty bowlers , Tendulkar for example used to fall pretty cheaply to useful 5th/6th bowling options..

Sometimes having a Mark Waugh or a Chris Harris in your side comes very handy , batsmen are humans very easy to lose concentration in limited overs , sometimes you want bowling options for their economy, or the pitch is two paced and a medium pacer would be more effective , or you want a golden arm to break a great partnership ..
That is why Jayasuriya is needed over Rohit Sharma or Anwar to open. (BTW, TM Dilshan also averages 45 with bat when opening, and an ATG fielder). With the ball, he is not a part timer, but knew how to get people out.

Yes, I think Dilshan would be a good pick. That Asian XI is a poor fielding side and he would improve it.

Actually no. Their ICC ratings are very similar, with slight bias towards Yuvraj. But the difference of bowling is a class apart.

Maxwell, Phillips, Stoinis, Mitchell, Marsh...
Lol. I know you think you're making a case for PT bowlers here, but you're doing the opposite. Maxwell and Phillips might be able to bowl a few tidy overs in the right conditions, but the other 3 do nothing like the jobs part time medium pacers did in the 90s. Relying on their bowling would be a liability

Mathews vs Yuvraj - Batting - Once again nothing much

Bowling - they are a gulf apart.

There is absolutely no reason to select Yuvraj over Mathews.
