I'd play Murali and Saqlain both. That is the guys that is going to give non SC batsmen the most trouble.

Tendulkar
Jayasuriya
Abbas
Kohli
Ranatunga (c)
Dhoni
Kapil
Imran
Akram
Saqlain
Murali

would be my XI to play non-SC XI.

There is merit for Mathews over Ranatunga as well.

I think it wins pretty easily , white ball cricket is about balance and Aussies get ODI cricket, ..you have variety , power, finishers , amazing fielding side with Waugh , Richards , De Villiers , Symonds, Watson.. don't get why you say they don't bat deep , Watson is coming in at No.7 and he averages 40 while Lee , Starc and Warne are all capable lower order bats ..
I wouldn't pick Lee though. Pollock and Hadlee were better ODI bowlers and much better with the bat

Definitely not Flintoff
Watson and Symonds were much better.
Not as all rounders. Not even close. They are batting all rounders.

You wouldn't really weaken a teams bowling by picking Pollock/Flintoff/Klusener as your 4th and 5th bowler, but you would weaken it by a fair bit by picking Watson or Symonds as 5th bowlers.

I'd pick both Watson and Symonds. Viv was also fine as a 5th bowler.

This is Greats vs Greats. Part time and fill in bowlers won't really cut it. They'll get targeted and sent to all corners.
So many limited overs teams throughout the years punch above their weight because of having crafty bowlers , Tendulkar for example used to fall pretty cheaply to useful 5th/6th bowling options..

Sometimes having a Mark Waugh or a Chris Harris in your side comes very handy , batsmen are humans very easy to lose concentration in limited overs , sometimes you want bowling options for their economy, or the pitch is two paced and a medium pacer would be more effective , or you want a golden arm to break a great partnership ..

That's also largely dependent on the era and rules/restrictions. You'll notice there aren't any Mark Waugh and Chris Harris all rounder types around now, and there hasn't been for a long time. Their bowling wouldn't be successful in this era, but a Klusener or Flintoff would be successful in any era.

Yuvraj over both. And Rohit over Jayasuriya.
Jayasuriya is a class above Rohit as a player. Rohit may be better with the bat but the whole bowling, fielding package easily makes jaya the better player. And Nah, I'd take Mathews every day of the week over Yuvraj. Similar batters, Mathews is a proper front line seamer compared to #6 place bowler in Yuvraj.

Ranatunga is the guy who has most runs in #5, and he was the best in that position in late 80s and early 90s. Averaged 50 against West indies in that time period. I can imagine if a player like AbDV, Hussey, Bevan or Inzamam replacing him. But Yuvraj, nah. BTW Aravinda is a #4. He is not going to replace Kohli.
