McGraths average isn't the issue against SA, he was blunted at home for whatever reason and they were likely the best batting lineup he faced overall at home. It's a minor but decent blemish along with Pak and SL.
Sachin's average against South Africa at home was 36, next.

Not as big a blemish as McGrath with 28 wickets in 9 tests@31 against SA at home.

Especially since Tendulkar still had several great knocks against Donald and Steyn.
It is.

McGrath contributed to a win at Adeliade in 2001 against SA too, sadly one off performances don't fix the lack of consistency, as always, the standards you have to Sachin are so different than what you have for other cricketers

It's rather sad that Sachin fans have to develope blemishes in McGrath's record to up their boy, it's very pathetic on top but I guess I can't expect more from that fanbase. it's literally this

McGrath 27 vs South Africa bad but Sachin 42 vs South Africa good

McGrath 30 in Pakistan bad but Sachin 40 in Pakistan good

yada yada Yada, pure form of Hypocrisy

@centurymaker Hey Subz's boy, you got anything to say?
You are not in the right frame of mind. Nor are you old enough to realise what others are saying to you, including honestbharani, DrWolverine.

You were saying outside CW people have that view, but it's only present day kids who say Smith is better or Kohli is better because they haven't seen or lived through the careers of former players.

Thanks for your excel sheet exercise. Cricket is not played on excel sheets.

not only am I sufficiently old enough to remember Sachin, the fact that you have such a cultish mentality that anyone rating Smith over Sachin in Tests is not credible is truly worrying.

so Okay then, answer, Ponting or Smith? let's see your credibility.

Come on dude, McGrath with maybe helping to win one game in nine he played and taking 3WPM isn't comparable to Tendulkar averaging 36 with a couple of tons against Steyn and an excellent 97 against Donald Pollock.

It is, because that just means Sachin sucked even more when not having a great time against SA at home, such an arbitrary performance criteria too, keep pretending Sachin's isn't a blemish though.

Sorry but you are the one insisting McGrath has zero blemishes in his record.

And like I said, it's not his averages for McGrath that is the issue it's him getting blunted in certain conditions.

It is a minor blemish for Tendulkar. But McGraths is a more noteworthy one because not only is his output low but he lacks meaningful performances too.

and was less shite when not having a "meaningful performance"

McGrath contributed to one win, Sachin to one, so one meaningful performance each.
Yeah except a ton and a 97 extra for Tendulkar. Zero fifers for McGrath, or fourfers for that matter. I don't know why you can't admit McGrath underperformed at home vs SA.

He did, so did Sachin, who was extra shite on mean.

He was in 9 tests at home vs SA. And Pakistan in six tests though those were quite flat tracks to be fair.
5 games in Pakistan, 2 came when he was shite against everyone and everywhere, one the flat series you mentioned and he bowled well overall. Why shouldn't we count UAE anyway as Pakistan used that as home wickets for a while

your friends brought numbers up, not me, usual Sachin fan strawmann
He is not my friend. Nor do I gaf about any of these numbers with small sample sizes for Mcgrath or smith or anyone. Country x, country z. This is a modern phenomenon which has infected all our minds. Peope never did that before. Thats not how players were rated. You have to watch.
