I mean, if you're counting Ames as ATG then why not Prior? Same average but played for 32 more tests and while Prior took time to be test standard with the gloves, I'm not sure Ames was considered the best keeper in his time.

How about ATG/ATVG third seamer as another rarity?

He wasn't considered great by the standards of the time when most glovemen were true specialists. He was definitely still very good though, his glovework wouldn't have been accepted otherwise.

But that probably applies to Prior once he returned to the test side and folks like de Kock, Rizwan, Pant etc

I mean aren’t most accounts usually (especially re: English keepers I’ve read) X was reliable/good, but he was no Y.

Really hard to rate keepers of the past.

As to the thread’s question, ATG Left Arm Wrist Spinners. 0 so far. Closest is Wardle but he usually bowled orthodox. Only “true” left arm wrist spinner to take 100 wickets is Paul Adams.

The two of the best Chinamen bowlers were unlucky. Hogg played in a time of Warne and MacGill. And Kuldeep plays in a time of Ashwin and Jadeja. These two are / were leaps and bounds better than Adams.

Kuldeep imo has the potential to end up as an ODI great....

Seriously? Brad Hogg? Sure, if we’re talking ODIs but the dude was crap in the long format, even at domestic level.

I think best Australian chinaman in FC is Chuck Fleetwood-Smith comfortably; though his (limited) Test record isn't great.

Atg left arm pacers as well as spinners are also quite rare. Very few left handed Atg batsmen too.

Australia is not a good place to bowl spin. Even Warne averages 35 in the shield. If Hogg had his opportunities against England, SAF, NZ and WI the story could have been very different.
