Would average ~60 for England without the teenage years bringing down his average imo.He wouldn't have made his debut at sixteen in England.
This can be argued no doubt but it just wouldn't have happened imo
Why not? It would just be a slightly delayed process wouldn't it?then he wouldn't ever develope into the batsman he eventually became.
It's probably not a question of should he or not but more just about the way the English would have gone about it.Why would he not debut as a teen for England though? It's not like that batting line up was packed or anything
assuming he debuts at 21-22, he'd still have the early tough years made worse by England's ruthless schedule in the 90s and if he develops into the batsman he eventually became it would be years later, the decline would come regardless with age and tennis elbow, by having his initial development phase for international cricket taking place in early 20s, even if everything goes dandy he'd just years of peak. Why not? Would Don still praise him if he was from England?I don’t think Sachin’s legacy would change too much though. He’d still be viewed as the best batsman after Bradman (at least outside of CW) as he is today.
Fair enough but I was more thinking of just a couple years delayed so 18 or 19 when he debuts.assuming he debuts at 21-22, he'd still have the early tough years made worse by England's ruthless schedule in the 90s and if he develops into the batsman he eventually became it would be years later, the decline would come regardless with age and tennis elbow, by having his initial development phase for international cricket taking place in early 20s, even if everything goes dandy he'd just years of peak.
Don used to rate Compton very highly so clearly no anti English bias.Would Don still praise him if he was from England?
the average still goes down if he debuts at 18 or 19, in the 90s he made 1200 runs @ 80 against Sri Lanka, England almost never played Sri Lanka, that alone would knock the average down by 2 or so points.Fair enough but I was more thinking of just a couple years delayed so 18 or 19 when he debuts.
Youngest player in test cricketWhy would he not debut as a teen for England though? It's not like that batting line up was packed or anything
Because that time in English cricket was steeped in conservatism. Why would he not debut as a teen for England though? It's not like that batting line up was packed or anything
If you don't think the England selectors even today aren't dumb enough to pick another Zak Crawley over a young Tendulkar, you don't know them well enough.Because that time in English cricket was steeped in conservatism.
They didn't have any cricketer as good as Tendulkar was at his age too, at least in modern times. If Rehan Ahmed can, surely Tendulkar with his record breaking feats ay school and FC level canYoungest player in test cricket
NZ : Vettori. 18 years & 10 days.
England : Rehan Ahmed. 18 years & 126 days.
Aus : Pat Cummins. 18 years & 193 days.
SA : Maphaka. 18 years & 270 days
SENA cricketers don’t usually debut at such a young age so I am guessing he would debut when he was 18 years or 19 years but not 16 years.
Dumb but at least open to ill-advised adventures like Bashir. Can you imagine him finding a spot in the 90s?If you don't think the England selectors even today aren't dumb enough to pick another Zak Crawley over a young Tendulkar, you don't know them well enough.
