What if Sachin Tendulkar was born in England. Do you think he would have ended up with a better record?

England played 229 Tests. India played 182 Tests.
Yeah he'd play most of them. And some before 93 too ofc. As Johan said, English batting wasn't great in the 90s either. Based off of how well he did as a teen in SENA, I reckon he'd break into the English XI too as a teen.

The poll should only really be higher or lower avg tbh.
It depends on when makes his debut and retires.

He probably doesn't play for 24 years if he's playing for England too... Probably retires after the 2011 wc after 120 tons or something
If we assume he makes his debut at 19 and retires at end of 2011 World Cup, Sir Sachin would have ended up with insane stats.
Sachin Tendulkar
157 Tests
13607 runs.
Avg of 59.41

I can't see him retiring much earlier than he actually did, that always seemed like an entirely personal decision and England do carry burdens (Cook for a few years), I reckon he'd play like 230 Tests, get around 17-18,000 runs, retire with an average of 50 or maybe 51.
There's more to it though. Sachin avgs "only" 54 partly because, India played more matches per year in the later half of his career, where he was worse and avged less. With England, that goes away

I am curious about his one day record.

England’s highest run getter in ODI is Joe Root with 7000+ runs. Sachin scored 8500+ runs at end of 1999 itself

personally think 90s would be very rough and challenging, Sachin would play 20+ Tests against McGrath in his preffered habitat, 25+ Tests against Ambrose in his preffered habitat and 15+ Tests against Donald in his preffered habitat, all having wonderful support on top, it's really different scheduling and the entire dynamic changes for his career.

also, Sachin in the 90s made 1,124 runs @ 80.28 against 90s Sri Lanka, England played Sri Lanka thrice in the entire decade while India did 13 times, another example of how the much different scheduling would change things.

Yeah but 90s also was when Sachin was at his best.... It would have been really interesting is all I can say

Bigger question is what would his English name be?

He would almost certainly have more tests, more runs and more centuries. The only real question is average - and that depends on whether you think he would have been allowed to debut as a teen and retire as late as he did in his poor run of form. Even with that scenario, and accounting for a high percentage of games vs Windies, SA and Aus, don’t see him going below 50. Given the extra runs and centuries, may even have been held in higher regard with 18,000-20,000 runs at 52 or so.
If somehow he would have averaged higher (with a more mature debut and earlier timed retirement), you’re still looking at around 15,000-18,000 runs IMO at something like 56-60

If he doesn't debut as a Teen I don't think there's any guarantee he'd be as good as an adult as he eventually was. There is no better teacher than international Cricket and Sachin surviving International Cricket and learning from the highest stage in his developmental years I reckon did wonders for his technique and career forward. If he doesn't debut as a teenager, I don't know if he becomes the batsman he eventually became, they are a vital part of his development as a batsman.

also, the scheduling in 90s would be really tense.
