West Indies Domestic Season 2008/2009

A lot of niave people would have called for him to be in the team as opposed to someone like Devon Smith who is whilst being shocking against spin, is in many respects proven against the swinging ball so I'm glad to see the selectors havn't thrown Barath in the deep end.
I agree that it would be ideal for Barath to debut against Bangladesh after the England tour. But I take issue with Smith being proven against the swinging ball as he has been absolutely terrible on the last two tours of England. They even dropped him once and were willing to give Sylvester Joseph a go at the top of the order! Am I the only one who saw him get out caught between keeper and gully driving against the swinging ball? And if he manages to survive the swinging ball he will immediately miss a straight one or give it away against the spinner.

It would have made sense to take Barath as a reserve opener to get used to the team environment and play some FC matches. Dale Richards should be given the openers spot for the 2 tests in England as he has earned the chance. There is simply no way Devon Smith should be there and I pray that he gets outperformed in the tour matches to force the team managements hand.

Anyone know is Pascal is a decent swinger of the ball? I know he's got some decent pace but that's about it
He gets some good outswing with the new ball when he pitches it up. Unfortunately he has short bowling syndrome as he knows he has some serious pace and so does not pitch it up as much as he should do. He is quite an exciting talent as he has that rare ability to give batsmen the hurry up even on the slowest of pitches (he was very impressive in Guyana).

I think he has a good future at the highest level but I'm not convinced he earned a pick above Rampaul who has been very impressive since his return from injury. Pascal is fairly similar to Taylor and Edwards in terms of his pace and trajectory so I would back Andrew Richardson to make more of an impact of the England tour with his accuracy and extra bounce.

Also Kraigg Braithwaite is a remarkable young batsman. I have not seen him myself but I have some Bajan connections who have and they are very excited about him.

From what I have heard he does not have the shots all around the wicket that Barath,Lil Bravo and Kieron Powell have but he can top them all when it comes to protecting his wicket and time spent at the crease even though he is only 16.

He does not have very much of an off side game at this stage but he is very strong through the leg side and will simply stay at the crease until he gets a scoring opportunity on the leg side.

I would back him for a fairly early international debut (maybe 18/19 years old) simply because he is so mentally strong. He seems like an experienced player in a 16 year old cricketers body:).

Hopefully he'd have developed an offside game by then. Bravo and Simmons play too much to leg for my liking.

Bravo has much more of an offside game than Simmons though. He's much less likely to get bogged down. Simmons, however, seems to only have a legside game unless the ball is short and wide.

Bravo's always been a very adaptable player though. I wouldn't necessarily put Simmons in the same category, given how long it took him to take his game to another level in FC cricket. Talented no doubt, but I'm not at all convinced he's of international class.

Trinidad really collapsed against the Combined Campuses....
That wouldn't have helped Barath's average for the season.

True, my prediction a couple weeks ago of them finishing 5th seems to have happened. Will do the highest performers and rankings later tonight or tomorrow after today's final day of the season.
