Missing from Jamaica's ongoing 4 day game...

Ordinarily, Taylor's name would be the first coming out of my keyboard, but he's missing from Jamaica's current match with the Leewards because his grandmother, to whom he was apparently close, has just died after a long illness. I'm not sure that he's in the right frame of mind to travel that far away from Jamaica right now....

Here's a question: how rigidly does the ICC make the teams stick to their reserves in case of injury? The Windies have already sent over two of the three reserves, and Best was the third, I believe.

You don't even have to officially nominate them; I think teams do it just to let the reserves know they should keep their schedules open and stay fit as they might be needed. Australia for example actually didn't name any standby players.

Who said that?

Personally, I think it's a good idea, because he was the player of the series in the domestic 20/20 competition last month, so he does know how to bowl in limited overs cricket. But I won't go as far as to call him the West Indies Mendis!

I think Jerome Taylor, Fidel Edwards and Marlon Samuels should stay in the Caribbean and continue their returns to cricket by compiling runs in the longer format, with a recall to the Test side vs Pakistan in April as their long-term objectives....

I heard Samuels was definitely spoken to after Bravo's injury, whether that was to replace him or not isn't confirmed, but apparently, Samuels declined an offer due to the same reasons as Gibbs when playing in India - with his betting history he's apprehensive about going to India, allegedly turning down the chance of a call up... Wondering what the guys back at home heard/can add to this?

'Following the injury to Dwayne Bravo Chairman of the West Indies Selection Committee Clyde Butts held discussion with Marlon Samuels about possible nomination to replace Bravo. After discussions Butts and Samuels agreed that he would be better served continuing to play in the WICB Regional 4 Day Tournament as he continues his return following a two year absence from the game. Butts and Samuels agreed that he also needed to work on getting fitter for a possible return to international cricket in the future. “Marlon has shown good form with the bat but he agrees with the Selection Committee that to return to international cricket at this stage, particularly in the high pressure situation of the Cricket World Cup would be too rushed,” Butts said.'

So, the WICB is in total agreement with Samuels, regardless of what the motives are....
