Great to see all the big guns playing apart from Dre Russ. Should be a brilliant tournament.

Watch out for Nial Smith from Guyana. He's a serious pace bowler.
Yeah, this is probably lil boy cricket for Russell...and if he plays he is gonna get injured since it’s not the lovable T20 format of the game.
Good shout out on Nial Smith...he was too hot to handle with the red ball for us. I’m not sure how he fares with the white ball. He’s nippy tho. Almost like a Jofra Archer.

Canadian Nitish Kumar is playing! Good stuff. Would be great if more USA/Canada players can take part in tournaments like these moving ahead.

I'm not sure how well the Windward Island Volcanoes will do. They have assembled a team full of youth. Fletcher, Cottoy, and Stoute are the only players in the 15-man squad who are over the age of 28.

They have 2 two WI U-19 captains in their team: Emmanuel Stewart and Kimani Melius.

Pace bowling with 2 left-arm pacers...Obed McCoy (24) and Preston McSween (25).

Devon Smith is their batting coach.

I'm looking forward to seeing how the youth go but I agree, they are likely to struggle when you look at their lineup and compare it with T & T.

Yes, TT is the behemoth that will take some lickings to defeat. I just hope that the Windwards team put on a fight. Some of these guys are good talent but raw.

Some comments from coaches and captains of the respective teams:

Stuart Williams (Leewards Hurricanes Head Coach): “The players look really sharp and energized in training. They are enthusiastic and eager to go one better than the last tournament, where we reached the final but lost to the Emerging Players. This year, we are preparing well … we are leaving no stone unturned, and with local knowledge that should work in our favor as well. We have some really bright talents and want to see them grow as a team and as individuals.”

Kieron Pollard (Trinidad and Tobago Red Force Captain): “I believe we have a very good team in terms of youth and experience and we can go that step further and make it to the finals. In the last few years, we missed out, reaching the semi-finals and being beaten, once by CCC and once by Leewards. Hopefully, we have all the energy and all the gas in the tank and go all the way. This promises to be a really good tournament and I know players will be aiming to impress and improve their careers.”

Andrew Richardson (Windwards Volcanoes Head Coach): “Our preparations have been good. The players have put in a lot of work and we are in a much better physical and mental state … they are definitely looking a lot better than six months ago, we are in fine spirits. Our batting in looking good and one important factor is that we have to make use of the power play overs when we are at the crease and not have to play catch-up cricket. We are looking to win … we always to play to win.”

Andre Coley (Jamaica Scorpions Head Coach): “It is very important that we start well. It is a shorter tournament than last time so we must hit the ground running and build from there. We have put together a strong squad which we believe can be a championship-winning team. Everybody is really ready to go and eager to play. It is great to be back playing regional cricket for the first time since last year, so this CG Insurance Super50 Cup is a big deal for us.”

Esuan Crandon (Guyana Jaguars Head Coach): “We have a very well-balanced squad. We are boosted by the presence of Shimron Hetmyer and Romario Shepherd, two players with international experience and who can be match-winners for us. Our training has been going quite well and we know we have to play fearless cricket and take it one game at a time. We will look to put it all together…we are very confident."

Jason Holder (Barbados Pride Captain): “We are really looking forward to the first tournament of the year. It’s great to be back and there is a lot of excitement in our camp. We are focused on winning. It will be important to hold our nerve under pressure and execute under pressure. The team that is most consistent always wins, and we have to look at being consistent and win for our country and our fans.”

Another quote from Windwards Volcanoes coach, Andrew Richardson:

“In the 80s, not to knock anything from the Lloyd and Viv Richards era, we had awesome talent. During that time, if you check the history, most teams were setting up their academies to improve their game. We didn’t set up our academy until around 2000. So, they have been reaping the success of what they have put in.”

He is keen on developing youngsters.

This from Volcanoes batsman, Emmanuel Stewart, former Windies U-19 captain:

“I think it’s an important year for cricket in the Caribbean, a lot of teams are touring the Caribbean,” Stewart told Grenada’s Talksport.

“So, I think what I have control over is my performance and once I continue putting the numbers up, then that is the most I can do,” he added.

“As long as I continue playing, I will continue putting my focus on those numbers and keep progressing for the Windwards and hopefully eventually the West Indies too.”

He is definitely looking in the right direction. He will have to put up the numbers as stated though.

Even though my team is the Jaguars...I'm really much interested in this Windwards Volcanoes outfit. I hope they impress.

Just me looking out for performances from Windwards players.

Today in the Abu Dhabi T10 league, Obed McCoy had figures of 2-9 from his 2 overs. It’s good that he’s getting some kinda high level exposure prior to the start of the tournament.

O you who turn the wheel and look to Windwards,
Consider Phlebas, who was once handsome and tall as you.

Cricket West Indies just posted that the matches will be streamed on ESPN and Windies cricket.com

I hope Willowtv covers some of the games as well. They did so the last time

Genuinely looking forward to this tournament. It's weird, but in the 50 over format I have faith in our batting, I want to see some bowling options come to the fore. Incisive new ball pace bowling, attacking middle over spin options and good death bowling skills are the main things to scout for.

It's literally the exact opposite in the 4 day format, where I just want to see some vaguely competent batting please!

I think bowling overall will come good. Barbados have a formidable bowling attack. Guyana with some impact bowlers. Trini has a lot of 'mystery' spinners and Anderson Philip.
