WC 2007 Squad Selection

Natman20

International Debutant
Time for a New Zealand version. A lot of good players would miss out and the team would be fairly old. Some of you would disagree with the selection of Darryl Tuffey but I think he will make it back into the squad. I was tempted to include Craig Mcmillan, Jesse Ryder, Jeetan Patel, James Marshall, Chris Martin, Jamie How, Chris Harris and some more players.

New Zealand Cup 2007 squad

Starting XI
1. / Stephen Flemming* (33 at world cup)
2. /(o) Nathan Astle (35 at world cup)
3. / Lou Vincent (28 at world cup)
4. / Peter Fulton (28 at world cup)
5. /o Scott Styris (31 at world cup)
6. /o Jacob Oram (28 at world cup)
7. /o Chris Cairns (36 at world cup)
8. /+ Brendon Mcullum (25 at world cup)
9. /o Daniel Vettori (28 at world cup)
10. o Shane Bond (31 at world cup)
11. o Daryl Tuffey (28 at world cup)

Super-Sub
12. /o Andre Adams (31 at world cup)

Remaining Players in Squad
13. / Hamish Marshall (28 at world cup)
14. o Kyle Mills (28 at world cup)
15. /o James Franklin (26 at world cup)

6 seamers Roseboy! And a reserve 'keeper (unless you've picked Baugh as a specialist bat). Are you just trying to squeeze a few more Jamaicans in.

What about:

Gayle
Chanderpaul
Lara
Sarwan
Morton
Samuels
Bravo
Dwayne Smith
Ramdin
Banks
Bradshaw
Collymore
Collins
Edwards
Rampaul

Morton-Nah. Marshall's a better prospect.
Samuels
Bravo- Can't believe I forgot him.
Dwayne Smith
Ramdin
Banks- Not necessary. Gayle provides some spin. Not sure he'll develop in time to be useful enough as a spinner.
Bradshaw
Collymore
Collins
Edwards
Rampaul-Nope. 2011 yes.
I didn't even realise the Jamaican theme.

That's all I can really be bothered to do at the moment. Thoughts? :)
I would take out Kartik and insert either Ramesh Powar, Piyush Chawla or Amit Mishra. I would consider taking out JP Yadav and inserting Joginder Sharma. I would consider taking out Rayudu and inserting Robin Uthappa. I'm also not too convinced about Agarkar's spot.

Others to watch:
*Gaurav Dhiman ~ exploding in the under-19 scene
*Venugopal Rao ~ pretty solid, just seems more suited to test cricket
*Shikhar Dhawan ~ plenty of openers, so he might have to wait, just like Uthappa
*VVS Laxman ~ not sure if the selectors care to bring back guys like him and sourav in the one-day game
*Munaf Patel/Sreesanth ~ both have loads of potential, could make it big or disappoint
*Zaheer Khan ~ have a feeling he'll come back roaring, first in test cricket, perhaps later in one-day cricket
*Ashish Nehra ~ great bowler, but his fielding and fitness might let him down after all

LOL! You honestly believe Xavier Marshall is a better prospect than Runako Morton. Sorry, but there has to be at least a bit of bias there.

Morton has 2 half-centuries in his 7 ODI innings and averages 28.43. He averages almost 40 in non-international OD matches. He looks competent at international level already.

Xavier Marshall has 0 half-centuries in 10 ODI innings and averages 9.80. He averages in the mid20s outside of international cricket. He looks completely underdone and utterly incompetent.

Basically Morton is already a better batsman than Marshall and will surely only get better with more experience. Both are brilliant fielders though.

On reflection, p'raps Darren Sammy to edge out a specilaist seamer. Sounds like he came on with the bat last season, but not sure whether he has the potential to be a front-line bowler. I think he's a good fielder too. Have you seen much of him Mr M?

At the moment he's a poor man's Bravo. He doesn't do much with the ball or have any genuine pace, but he is accurate for the most part and seems to try things. I don't think his batting is anywhere near up to international grade yet, but I won't deny that he is improving. By 2007, who knows. I'd like that he get some good exposure next year if he is to be ready for the World Cup though.

He's a brilliant fielder. In fact, a lot of the young West Indian cricketers are very good fielders. That's one area that seemingly has improved at a grassroots level.

Can you tell us anything about Chamara Kapugedera? Where would he be likely to fill in at?
Thanks
His been batting mainly in the middle order (4 or 5) for Colombo Cricket Club during the current OD Season, but apparently he can open as well as been seen as a future number 3 prospect. All in all he seems to be watch this space type of player cus no one really knows much about him, apart from the fact that his had a brilliant start to his OD Domestic career as well as scoring a fifty on his FC debut playing for Sri Lanka A aganist NZ A.

i think sri lanka should change their team completly for the world cup if they want to try and even have a chance of winning it, if they don't they will go out in the first round

Can't Pietersen + Vaughan spin it? :p

To me both look incompetent at international level. It's a purely objective opinion that. Also with regards to team selection. I just selected players who are at the fore now for selection and those who look like they can be there come 2007. You might be right about Marshall though but I'd pick Deonarine over both of them.
