International 12th Man
i disagree. he hasnt played much red ball because he plays white ball for nz. when he does play he dominates. he's our 5th best bowler at worst. until late 2019 where he was sold down the river at perth he had a remarkable bill of health.

the wc is 2 years away and the t20 wc is worthless compared to the wtc final. he should be on that plane unless he pulled out himself imo.
Who would you have picked him instead of? Young? Patel? Or gambled that none of the non-IPL quicks would be injured or that one of the IPL quicks would get there for the 1st test? Or insisted we take a 21st player?

There is a risk that Boult and Jamieson won't be available for the 1st test, and I suspect that the selectors wanted the the option of a standard 4 seamer lineup + 1 backup in case of injury (Southee Henry Duffy Wagner, + Bracewell).

No need to carry a 4th spinner / spinning all-rounder, if the 1st test pitch is brown and Santner still with IPL and there is a pre-game injury to Ravindra or Patel, then the other can play.
Like me, I guess Flem would probably argue that he would rather have the specialist bowler than someone selected for the added batting ability they supposedly bring in (Bracewell, Santner). Ferguson being part of the IPL contingent didn’t help his cause I suppose.

I get the logic behind the bit bolded above, but the “formula” (4 seamers + allrounder - preferably a seam bowling one), feels too rigid to be followed at all costs outside NZ. England’s the one place where you’d probably make it work, though worth remembering that Mark Craig and KW were immense on day 5 of the Leeds victory on the last tour.

Devon Conway's New Zealand residency confirmed to remove tour doubts (espncricinfo.com)

  • Also confirmed they are considering having Devon open
  • No warmup game vs Somerset any more
  • Instead they will have a intra-squad game
Will the warm up game be behind closed doors now, and is it moving to Hampshire as it says Hampshire players making up the numbers?
Worrying about my chances of seeing the Black Caps in England as Lords Test ticket has been cancelled and no news on WTC tickets still.

Yeah I thought how can they play an inter squad game when good number of players are still in India. They're going to fill in with Hampshire players. Unlucky Hampshire players, they'll probably have to quarantine as well.

Saw Ravindra at the nets yesterday. This is why I think he'll go a long way. Most players will still be basking being named in the squad but he's already back working at his game. That's some dedication. I think I saw the dog thrower being used and the bloke that was throwing was clocking 150+ Ks. Scary stuff. Don't know how these players hit those so comfortably. It looked scary from a distance. Good luck facing that.

Very glad to see Kyle's bowling figures for RCB. He did all right and got through the first game unscathed.

Yeah KJ bowled very very well, especially upfront. Did a great job keeping Rohit and Lynn quiet in the pp. May have been slightly down to mi not realising how slow the pitch would eventually end up and not going as hard as they could in the pp, but still a great effort.

Finn getting hits now. Some good words for him from the batting coach. Go Finn...

Firstly, hilarious. When I saw it on instagram I had a jolly LOL.

Secondly, how the hell can you purport to being our national newspaper/online presence, that wants to be taken seriously, and writing an article like that. That's not an NZ Herald article. It's a buzzfeed article or whatever, it's instagram. And what about the goon that had to write that...imagine your life's work being writing about Sir Richard having a book on a shelf. That wouldn't be enough to get me up in the morning

"News" has changed a lot, all of it is clickbait now. It's just how the platform works.

Also hardly the person's life's work, they probably got all of an hour to write that story before moving on to the next 9 things they need to write that day.

Nah I know, I've worked in the industry. I get it - it operates as a clickbait source because that's what unfortunately drives people to read articles nowadays. They're shareable, they're easy to read, they're like fast food - quick, temporarily satisfying but no substance.

And it's why I would never again. I was being slightly facetious about the life's work thing, although I would find it hard to feel decent about myself if that's the sort of thing I was tasked with doing after I'd presumably spent 3-4 years in a media degree, journalism whatever. I know you have to work your way up, but to me I'd feel a bit flat. A bit like becoming a chef then living out your days reheating microwave meals for old people.

Haha, I mean I enjoyed it when it was an instagram post. I just think it's pathetic that our national newspaper runs those sort of articles online. I know why, but I still feel like it's rubbish.
