When comparing away records, I usually go to the opponent's home wickets, IE It would be Gower in Australia vs Chappell in England, and Gower easily wins that.

Why is it easy? Gowers only really great series there was with the worst Aus attack, otherwise it's fairly good like Chappell.

Gavaskar has a very fine Series to Hadlee at Home, and his bad tour was of 3 matches as well. In the earlier Series he scored a ton, a 70 (Hadlee played) and batted a single innings being absent hurt in the 2nd.

Decent, but unlucky. Think he was sawn off a few times. I wouldn't call it a great or very good series but also not a failure considering the circumstances of the decisions he got.
