Top 25 cricketers of Shane Warne's Career - as decided by CW

The Wheel is Forever
So as per the idea in the other thread by Xuhaib, I think it's a good idea to make a better list than Warne. Of course, Warne would be included.

Criteria: The person in question must have played at least one Test or One Day International with or against Warne.

First thing we'll do is nominate 50 players. Then we'll rank 25 in reverse order just like Warne by CW voting (starting with #25, and working our way up). We'll do it the opposite way from usual voting, and see how it goes.

So let's start with the nominations, I have the following:

  1. Shane Warne
  2. Chris Cairns
  3. Dilip Vengsarkar
  4. Waqar Younis
  5. Alec Stewart
  6. Michael Atherton
  7. Ravi Shastri
  8. Justin Langer
  9. Kapil Dev
  10. Stuart MacGill
  11. Sanath Jayasuriya
  12. Stephen Harmison
  13. Andy Flower
  14. Michael Vaughan
  15. Bruce Reid
  16. Allan Donald
  17. Robin Smith
  18. Kevin Pietersen
  19. Shoaib Akhtar
  20. Craig McDermott
  21. Saeed Anwar
  22. Mohammad Yousuf
  23. Jacques Kallis
  24. Shaun Pollock
  25. Steve Waugh
  26. Darren Lehmann
  27. Brett Lee
  28. Stephen Fleming
  29. Martin Crowe
  30. David Boon
  31. Adam Gilchrist
  32. Aravinda de Silva
  33. VVS Laxman
  34. Matthew Hayden
  35. Andrew Flintoff
  36. Graham Gooch
  37. Rahul Dravid
  38. Anil Kumble
  39. Mark Waugh
  40. Courtney Walsh
  41. Ian Healy
  42. Mark Taylor
  43. Ricky Ponting
  44. Muttiah Muralitharan
  45. Wasim Akram
  46. Glenn McGrath
  47. Allan Border
  48. Curtly Ambrose
  49. Brian Lara
  50. Sachin Tendulkar

If you nominate someone, please also nominate who you'd like to take OFF, as we want only 50 players to pick from.

50 too many for mine, will take too long, and frankly, I CBA with the effort of doing that many. :p

Make it 25, as Greg (howardj) suggested.

Nah, don't like the voting or nominations idea. Would rather go back to the original one where everyone just makes their own list and the whole thing is compiled and ranked from there.

SS, you've missed the point brought up in the other thread, it wasn't going to be a vote nor was it going to be limited by nominations. Everyone was going to post their own list and the results were going to be complied into one top 50.

Just thought of an idea that maybe we should come up with CW top 50 cricketers list. Each member should post their top 50 list, after we have got around say 50 lists we count the number of players that have made those lists and then we should rank the players according to the points they had scored.

Its easier for everyone to nomnate just ten and rank them ( something like the way the cricketers of the century were selected). Give points for rankings ten for first upto 1 for 10th. Add up the points for all those nominated and you will surely have more than fifty in order of ranking.

Um, I already nominated the 50...you just have to put up any changes if you want them.
There must be at least 30 seam-bowling candidates better than Harmison.

A few...
PS de Villiers
Craig Matthews
Andre Nel
Makhaya Ntini
Chaminda Vaas (is nothing short of a disgrace that anyone would even remotely consider Harmison ahead of him)
Ian Bishop
Winston Benjamin
Kenneth Benjamin
Pedro Collins
Angus Fraser
Darren Gough
Andrew Caddick
Dominic Cork
Matthew Hoggard
Simon Doull
Dion Nash
Shane Bond
Aaqib Javed
Mo-hammad Asif
Paul Reiffel
Damien Fleming
Jason Gillespie
Merv
Michael Kasprowicz
Stuart Clark
Javagal Srinath
Laaaasigh Maaaalinga
Heath Streak

Most if not all of whom are also better than Brett Lee too. And Stuart MacGill.

Mohammad Azharuddin > Robin Smith by a fair bit, though as you seem to be in charge of this operation I presume you'll refuse to consider him for other reasons.

Kapil Dev and Brian McMillan is a possible, too, though Kapil > Mac probably.

Is that in order? And have you deliberately excluded Warne because you thought he was not to be considered, or you just don't rate him in your top 20?
