The Young Indian Players

International Regular
I'm not seeing as much of the IPL as I would hope but it looks like Pant, Iyer, Shaw are all having a great run of form (and some good knocks from Samson, Ishan Kishan and others).

I'm curious what people think about who is going to make it beyond hit and giggle cricket and succeed in the long form of the game. Without having the benefit of watching him bat, it looks like Prithvi Shaw is a natural replacement for Murali Vijay but is his technique as good as the hype? Can Pant take the gloves for the test team? Can Iyer step in for Nohit Sharma or even Rahane?

Curious minds want to know.

In before people (shri) start claiming players

Regardless, what they do here shouldn't have a bearing on their test selections. For example Iyer's looked wonderful here but displayed shocking technique against Sri Lanka on a green wicket.

From what they have shown as of now - neither Pant nor Iyer is test quality (outside India). Shaw is relatively untested compared to those two but his Ranji performances are superb and from what I've seen of him in the U-19 WC he is a solid shout for a future test batsman.

Haha good indian players. Yeah, ok.

Hype train gearing up for the next round of Irfan Pathans, Ashish Nehras and Ten Dollar Karls.

Mavi and Nagarkoti clearly will be groomed for National honours, but a long way to go for them yet. Plenty can go wrong before they become established test cricketers.

India always has lots of really good looking batting talent, but it's such a competitive role that these guys aren't going to get the year or two with the squad to get used to International cricket. Unless you are Rohit Sharma you don't get a long lease from the Indian selectors.

Shaw, Gill, Samson, Vohra are good batting prospects but it’s very tough atm for any youngster to get a decent chance. Gill is an opening bat but in the IPL he’s batting down in the lower order, Vohra can’t get consistent chances in his IPL team due to the strong batting line up, Samson and Shaw however have been given chances and have done pretty well with those chances.
