Is this per match? Wonder if there was any difference between games on during the Olympics and those afterwards
Just seen this on twitter: Yorkshire subject of £50m takeover bid from Sunrisers Hyderabad after talks with Rajasthan Royals stall.

How did we end up selling or trying to sell a couple of our top clubs (Hampshire and assuming Yorkshire still fit in that category) and give away the best month of summer to an international rival?

What happens if the IPL franchises decide between them to use the ECB's brainchild as an extended net and field 'development' teams?
Have they done this in the Caribbean or SA? Suspect this is more about financial benefit to the owners than the development of Indian cricketers, who I think are still prevented from playing in overseas "T20" leagues. Not saying that this makes this all a good thing though.

I don't know as I don't follow franchise leagues that closely but if they haven't that doesn't mean that they couldn't. There has been a change, a relaxation in terms of allowing Indian players to play in the Championship even in the Blast for some from time to time.

Any sale of clubs or franchise must surely be to secure their future and game in general rather than swap control for short term cash injection. If there is any "financial benefit" as suggested, to be had why hand it over? As you say not every decision has been successful and some more in luck than design.

Probably need to change the thread title as at best will become a routine T20, 120 ball franchise. The One Hundred and Twenty. Anyhow:

Daniel Gidney, big, big fan of the Hundred, looking forward to his 51% share of a franchise, has had a few words in the Times:

“...he also believes the competition must be careful about how it spends the income it receives from the sale of the eight teams to private investors.
“The Hundred needs more overseas stars but the money from the sale of the teams should go on infrastructure or debt reduction,” he said. “It shouldn’t go on players’ salaries, absolutely not.
“If the bottom rung of the Hundred becomes 60 grand rather than 30 grand, that’s more than some of my young players are earning. If they can be paid more for doing nothing and sitting on a bench than for playing a whole season, that’s a nightmare.”

Just like he's careful how Lancashire don't spend their money.

An IPL franchise is not the BCCI. Their interests are often not aligned including permission for Indian players to feature in leagues overseas. An IPL franchise cannot send ''development teams'' to leagues abroad in contravention of BCCI's policy. That'd be the surest way to have their franchise privileges stripped and for the players to be blacklisted.

Finances of it have been torn to shreds by the IPL founder.

ECB will be in full blown panic mode right now. They've done their level best to bankrupt English cricket desperate for IPL cash.

Looks they will be saying no thanks or yes but we'll take for a bargain price please.

25 million all he reckons the most expensive Hundred team is worth. Doesn't even get you half a footballer these days.

Strategic Negotiation?

The single thing which is worth bidding for is the women's teams. The international franchises would like to be in early in the expected growth and coverage of the women's game. The men's franchise are less interesting as they are replicated worldwide.

The difference would be whether Indian players would be involved. They're not generally doing much else in August and could be signed up if the BCCI allowed. If that happened then the TV deals become somewhat more attractive. I presume that's what the ECB are hoping for, but it's not happened in SA.

If the IPL Clubs continue to have an influence on the English County game and maybe take over the Hundred teams then the BCCI will think its beneficial for Indian players to be involved in this

Rod Bransgrove was more than happy to stick the boot in during Durham demise.

Now he wishes to bring upon the demise of every other county as we know them.

Hope the bloke spends his retirement constantly stepping on plugs/lego in bare feet the ****.

Was this the thread in which we were discussing the future reduction of domestic cricket in England?

Rumour has it that at the Lancashire Members Forum today they will be floating the latest ECB proposal for a reduction in county cricket:

- 2 CC divisions of 10/8 as now

- 8 CC games played before the Blast in June to determine play off positions
- 12 Blast games and finals in June/July
- One Day Cup/Hundred in August
- 4 or 3 play off matches in Div 1/Div 2, in September, to decide the final standings.

So down 12 or 11 championship games in total and continuation of the lopside imbalanced divisions. 8 games in Division One to play 9 other teams. 8 games in Division 2 to play 7 other teams. Really?

Thanks for info. I have never liked the idea of a play off or final in the first class game - it does not work well with the format.

To be fair, an earlier conclusion to the Blast and a slight reduction in fixtures are not bad ideas.

I quite like it. The championship having spring all to itself in the IPL window works great in my opinion but there is no need to go down to just eight games. I would have division one of 12 teams - 11 games. This can get done by early june. Division two of six teams - 10 games.

More teams in the top divison is good as there is more to play for at both top and bottom. It also increases the chance of local rivals being in the same division
