Bumrah and Shami took 26 wickets between them at around an average of 22. SA’s pacers were better but they were also bowling at a hapless Indian batting unit. The former were also under the captaincy of KL Rahul who was downright torrid with his game management and tactics then. But these points dont account for their collective failures in SA when SA ground out victories fairly comfortably on pitches that still offered something. At least you would expect the supposed best pace attack in the world to make them sweat.
Calling that effort a failure is an absolute joke as they had been winning games both home and away for years prior to it. At some point you can’t keep such intensity going and it is bound to take a toll when the batsmen din’t step up.
