Elliot and Hodge have been killing everything they've faced this season and they're not named come on

Quite simply, Warne is God, there have been lots of great batters this season who haven't made the Australian team.

North, Goodwin, Rogers, Law, Watson, D. Hussey.
Brad Hodge isn't even in the top 10 for the Pura Cup.
In the ING Cup, Law, Perren, North, M. Hussey, Maher, Watson have all done well.
Elliot and Hodge are both in the top 3 for the ING Cup, but neither one of them is close to the one day side.
And for the test team there are simply better candidates.

Ok North, Goodwin, Rogers. there ok. Watsons coming back from a back injury and is still not bowling as well as he once was. D.Hussey played a game and went ok. Laws buggerin off to England. Perren ain't no good and i agree with you on Maher but his one chance is as back up keeper.furious_ged said:

For starters Elliot had his chance and Hayden and Langer are going so well that there is no need for another opener. As far as Hodge goes...he falls into a big category of players who have performed so well over the last few years but either haven't been in-form when spots were up for grabs or when in form there hasn't been a spot available.
It's a shame for guys like Hodge, Love, Maher, Cox, Marsh, etc. they are starting to be considered too old to play test cricket with a push for younger players. They were either born 5 years too early or 5 years too late.

Watson? He's had his chance at international level and blew it. I dont even rate him as a first class cricketer.

Under no circumstances can you say someone should be playing international cricket if:
a) there's no places available, which there won't be unless someone should certainly be dropped from the most recent international team. Always the player's batting position must be remembered (if he's a batsman, obviously).
b) the player concerned has already had a chance and blown it.
c) the player is having one good season and has never shown this sort of form before (or even if it's his first season)
Some English examples in recent years have been:
Knight in 2002 (a and b)
Fulton in 2001 (a and c)
Montgomerie in 2001 (a)
Saggers (errrr... none of the above. Only reason he's not been picked is poor selection)
Indeed, c must happen in just about every country just about every season.

This reminds me of Gloustershire and Leicestershire after their successes. The Surrey side was packed with talent but wasn't performing, yet the England selectors kept picking the Surrey players even if they weren't performing. A few players got in because of the team badge though, and it carries on with Clarke and Tudor. Both the former teams were packed with players who played well as a team, although players like Darren Maddy, Jeremy Snape and Mark Alleyne were given chances. Just because a team is doing well doesn't mean you should pick their players, only the ones who perform individually. Saying that, Jonathon Lewis has been bowling his socks off since Courtney Walsh left and deserves at least an Academy call-up, he's still young enough and every time I've seen him bowl he's bowled beutifully. Coming from Gloustershire, he's also a fine fielder and a big team player.

Elliot and Hodge have to at least be considered, because they are performing brilliantly as individuals, regardless of the fact Victoria are number 1 in the Pura Cup these two have been outstanding. Sure Elliott had his chance but so did Hayden and Martyn, that's how cricket goes. Players improve, Elliott has and though the Australian side is a very strong unit now Hodge and Elliott must be pushing for selection. Hodge had 3 100s and 3 50s in the ING Cup, yet he's not close to the ODI side, not even close. He should at least be in contention.

There is a Lot of Depth in Aussie Cricket between the Ages of 27-35.... in fact it the best of all time players like Hodge, Law and Love would get into the England Team this is Australia Stength. But after that they only 3 good Cricketers Michael Clarke, Shane Watson and Nathan Hauritz and they have all played for Australia at one day level but it pretty sad that No other have come though.......... having said that England have the Same problem
