No disrespect but Vettori seems a very underwhelming inductee, no?
I wouldn't say so. He's the torchbearer of spin bowling in the NZ, probably the worst place for spin bowling in the world. A good AR I'd say in tests, maybe even better in ODIs.
Having said that, we have much better players missing out so far, but maybe a couple worse ones included too so...

Is it really all that? I remember some good spells from the likes of Lyon, Maharaj and Harbhajan on those Kiwi wickets

Who? And Vettori averages 38 without minnows in Tests. He is borderline a balanced allrounder

I may be wrong but didn't he start his test career really slowly because of his age & craft?

I remember when we toured there in 1998 and absolutely smashed him everywhere

His career progression was quite stark from beginning to end.
