Test Top 5s (as of now)

So the implication Maharaj did not take enough wickets and therefore got owned? He was never expected to take wickets he was expected to hold up an end. He did that beautifully in the first test under extreme pressure. He bowled 7 overs in the 2nd test, because Abbott and Rabada took the Aussie batsmen apart. He was not dropped due to poor performance in the 3rd, Shamsi a more attacking option was given a chance. The point is a good bowler, even finger spinners, can still do well even on pitches like Perth even if they don't take 5 for`s every innings.
I think it was more that one game doesn't tell you very much either way.

Yeah probably ahead of Haze. Also, this era has slowly become the best in terms of the quality bowling attacks since the 90s.

Rabada-Philander-Ngidi-Morkel/Steyn's corpse- Maharaj
Starc-Haze-Cumster-Lyon
Anderson-Broad-Woakes-Stokes
Boult-Southee-Wagner
Bhuvi-Shami-Bumrash-Brain-Jaddu

All seriously good to great attacks.

Haze has more of a body of work in his favour tbf. Cummins is so so good though, at some point all the cards are going to fall for him and he's just going to take a pile of wickets in a hurry. Probably once he works out that he needs to bowl a bit fuller.

Oz, rsa and india (at home) i would consider very very good to great. England/new Zealand at home are a bit of a handful as well. Damn shame about my beloved wi :(

Aus and SA attacks are ATG level, we just need another 20 years to acknowledge it.

Lot of good spin talent going around too. Lyon, Ashwin, Herath, Jadeja, Mahraj, Santner, Sodhi, Rashid Khan, Mehdi Hasan, Shakib, Akila Dananjaya, Sandakan, Chahal, Kuldeep, Yasir Shah, Shadab Khan even Mo Ali is a step above any other English spinner in recent times apart from Swann.

Add to this the Fab 4 batsmen, and the rise of Ireland and Afghanistan to Test nations, and the general increasing standards of Associates such as Scotland, Netherlands, Nepal...I think we might look back in 20 years and consider this to be a golden era of sorts.

we often say this about bowlers for their entire careers though. Atm he's nothing on Hazlewood.

Good to see you're finally putting the spinners in the right order here.
