Perhaps I am being a wee bit harsh on tubby Taylor who certainly did have his moments in the sun.
My reference of disappointment to him though was a general one and referred to over many years.
The table for the most runs that decade is somewhat misleading because he played more tests than anyone else, and while he certainly faced some
great bowlers during that time, he only averaged 40 that decade despite scoring 334* which is fine, but certainly nothing outstanding.
Averaging nearly 41, in that strong era, as an opening batsman is very good. If he played now he would be averaging high 40s even the 50 mark.

Hell to the no. Warner is garbage outside Australia. In the 90s, Warner might average over 40.

They average similar but Slater has a clear edge on consistency. Taylor a little feast or famine in terms of run distribution per year.

And I’d go Hayden>Slater>Langer>Taylor>Warner.
