Targeted Ads

Do the ads pick up key words in posts and tailor them to the content or is this coincidence?

Nah it happens all the time to me, nothing unusual. Mainly on other sites, but it's happened to me on this site before.

Google adsense (the ad program of google) uses contextually targetted ads. It is some thing which other advertisement companies on the net use too.

Yeah, whenever you see Ads by Google on a site, it's generally contextual advertising, and will display either in display ad or sponsored ad form.

Is it possible to get ads taken off? I have had a '***y stars casino' add with bikini-clad plastically-enhanced 'ladies' a few times recently in the Ashes sub-forum. No idea why but it's a bit inappropriate IMO.

No, I think she just means specific ads. James can get them removed, so I'd recommend alerting him, probably with a screenshot of the offending ad if possible.

Yeah, I do. I'll try that next time I see it, ta. :)
Yep, do that. :) Google's policy actually is not to allow "adult" related ads so nothing like what you mentioned should appear.

Use ad block plus in Firefox. Its an addon. Google it.
If you enjoy the site, don't use ad block. The site is hardly over flowing with ads. They help to keep the site running and allow us to invest in new features for you, the visitor. If everyone used ad-block, there would be no Cricket Web.

I use the Safari browser to browse CW, so no way to block ads. I use mozilla+ad block over at PC.net.

You joined in December 05, Goughy's post was in July 07.... and still has PMs?
It's because he was a staff member and the user permissions used to be set up differently. He didn't actually have PMs enabled but he could see the option there. If he clicked on it, it would have told him to GAGF.
