Stumped!

I enjoy playing CWC and being part of the community. I did not intend to upset anyone and apologies for doing so.................guess I'll just have to win it now!
You did not upset anybody, and apologies if it came across that way. I was just trying to say that unlike say on the stumped forum where people take this all very seriously, these CWC contests and tournaments are really just a bunch of fun amongst friends. We all try to do our best and want to win but nobody here is likely to start cheating. And they would not be invited back if it was felt that they were.

So ZCC's first game in the CWC4 Div 1 is away against FHK - a matchup they've lost twice in the last two months!

A full strength team lost by 125 runs on Dec 16th, and then by 6 wickets on Jan 2nd. The time before that they won by 6 wickets, inspired by a Tim Chester five-fer. Chester has since bowled 19.2 overs for 124 runs and just 1 wicket at 5DNOL in first-XI matches. That one win also saw Shahbaz Furqan hammer 122* for ZCC in the chase. The next two games have returned a highest score of 52 for the visiting side.

The dry conditions and Chester's past success suggest he'll play again, but his recent poor form might see ZCC revert to 40 overs of seam. The lack of runs is a concern too, with FHK's bowling improving every game. Arif Jalal struck 90 opening the batting last summer in the 4th most recent encounter at their ground, albeit against an attack missing Pong Nam. Will ZCC gamble with him up the order again, or will they back the regular top 5 to come good this time?

I’m satisfied so far with Mooo’s bowling in this initial game of CW4-2 against Winton CC.

Kurupath with two wickets in two balls forced the batsmen from WCC to play more conservatively, slowing down their RR in the process.
Hoping to chase a total near 160

So far...

ATX v AA
Ataraxia batting first, were one stage 111 for 4. Daniel Rowan teamed up with a few other hard-hitters and now the score is 251 for 6 with a few balls left in the innings. Rowan just completed his century. A wicket each for all AA's bowlers used.

ATX-W v HH
HH were 167 for 5 at one stage and lost their remaining 5 wickets for only 17 runs! Juan Goliath (the name sounds familiar ;) ) was the chief wicket-taker, grabbing 3 of them. Both teams are dead on with the expert ratings. HH have just struck with the first wicket with 27 on the board.

Wonders or Blunders v JOJO
Wonders is the lone bot in this competition, but they have managed to put up 139 on the board...and are 9 wickets away from victory lol

Mooo v Winton
Chetan Kurupath led the way with the ball for Moo taking 3 wickets...Winton were able to muster only 139. Captain Shamiso Luqe top-scored with 44 (72). Reply, Moo lost Bart Way via the run-out route for 4 (8). Aat Bernstein havs joined his skipper and the score is now 42 for 1...under a 100 to go!

Around the grounds in the CWC plate (SCC beat me, whatever ):

In the Caribbean derby Moooo's bowling overpowered the inexperienced Winton CC. Captain Shamiso Luqe top-scored with 44 (72), no one else getting going. The nos. 10 and 11 stuck around for eight overs, the unfortunately named Dik**** Umakanta getting 1* (32), but Winton could only muster 139. Bart Way, coming off a steaming hundy in the SOD, has been run out by Luqe early in the chase.

The bot, sporting surprisingly high ratings of 30K, also was bowled out for 139. Bernie Tennant and Jacob Dickins got three apiece. JoJo have lost two early wickets in reply - it may not be such a simple bot bash as expected.

AX-W against the Honest Hunks: Chunky Kuttikad characteristically top-scored with a breezy 55 (45), and Champak Profulla got his highest fr. 50o score; 45* (48). The homegrown's reply has been slow going; opener John Ward was 8* (50) at one stage!

Looks like the Astronauts have forgot to change their 40K default orders. AXI have got to 266-7, but will be disappointed they didn't get a few more. Daniel Rowan, in menacing touch, has scored his first club hundred. 104 (116), 11th player to score a hundred for AXI.

ZCC have elected to bat first and are currently 145/3 after 30 overs.
Doubling this gives us 290, which should be a defendable target. Raun is fresh to the crease while Sajith is soldiering on from the other end.

Another sub-par score for ZCC, bowled out for just 231.

The day started poorly for the visitors when Shah-boss popped Ivan Lam to cover for a first-ball duck in the 2nd over. It got even worse next over, when Heshan de Mehlo called Sajith through for a 2nd run on an Agnes Chow misfield, only to be run out by a direct hit from her bullet arm! ZCC 5/2 in 3 overs!

Sajith D Estandau and Zack Yattack then rebuilt, showing their class during a 118 run partnership for the 3rd wicket. After 25 overs ZCC were 123/2, and looking good for a score in excess of 250. That's when Zack, batting on 61, mistimed a slog off a ball that might have been a wide had he left it. Instead he found the safe hands of Kovrig in the deep, giving FHK their 3rd breakthrough. Raun Shkorer looked decent during his stay at the crease, despite his lack of touch, while Sajith brought up his 50. Raun was dismissed soon after we crossed 150 tho, dragging the ball onto his stumps, and after 34 ZCC were 161/4. 16 overs to go, 250 very much still on the cards.

27 runs came off the next 3 overs as Sajith and Danial Ahsan stepped on the gas, but recently-capped BD National player Lester Shum struck in the 38th over to remove Sajith stumped for 79! Jalal and Ahsan threatened a strong end to the innings, but were both runout in consecutive balls by the bullet-arm of FHK skipper Tin Yau! That snuffed out any chances of a 250+ score, and 205/5 in 40 overs petered out to just 231 all out. Wickets were shared all around for FHK, with LOY (2/39) the pick of the bowlers.

Facing a possible 3rd consecutive defeat to FHK at 5DNOL in row, ZCC came out hard with the new ball, but Agnes Chow and Qasim Abdullah blunted the first 11 overs for 40 runs. Former SA Nat offspinner Luke Giddings was tossed the ball in the powerplay, and paid dividends in his 3rd over, removing both Abdullah (great catch by keeper de Mehlo) and Chung (bowled by a beauty)! FHK now on the backfoot. Tin Yau was unable to follow up his efforts in the field, and fell playing a poor shot off 'partnership breaker' Chung Yiu just a couple of overs later. I give you the commentary of his dismissal in full:

14.1WChung Yiu to Tin Yau84.9 mphGOT HIM! Nagging line for this ball, Just helped on its way by Yau. He's early on it and it's in the air. Furqan pouches a clean catch, OUT!
The bowler looks embarrassed to have that wicket, but that is how cricket goes, sometimes rubbish takes wickets.

Yes sir, sometimes **** gets wickets, and this was exactly the kind of luck ZCC needed. FHK 54/3 after 15 overs, and suddenly they had a sniff!

Tim Chester was persisted with in the XI, despite his recent struggles, and didn't make an appearance to the bowling crease until the 23rd over. Nathan Law had joined Agnes Chow in the middle, and together they had taken to score to 101/3. Agnes had brought up her fifty -picking up from her 142 in the SOD yesterday and continuing her recent rich vein of form - and the asking rate was under 5. ZCC were in need of another breakthrough, and Chester provided it in his first over! Nathan Law thumped his 4th ball for 4 but gloved the 5th behind to de Mehlo, who took another sharp catch! A few overs later, and it was ZCC's turn to snag a runout, with Shah-boss nailing a direct hit to run out Kovrig for just 7. That'll make up for the first ball duck. Tim Chester then wrapped up an outstanding first spell by dismissing Agnes caught behind for 70, yet another sharp piece of glovework by Heshan! FHK 136/6 in 30 overs, and a ZCC win now seeming like a mere formality!

To FHK's credit, they did not give up the chase. Ivan Lam (22), Lester Shum (18) and Pong Nam (12*) battled away to inch their side closer and closer to the target. But it was ZCC's day, and they hung on to bowl FHK out for just 197! A 34-run win and the losing streak broken for ZCC. Great way to start CWC4!

As for FHK - they'll be gutted to not secure this win when it mattered. Those 7 overs in the chase where they lost 3 wickets for 35 runs proved to be crucial, as well as losing 3 wickets in the first 15 overs. Luke Giddings finished with 3/33 in 10, and Chester went a long way to redeeming himself for some poor performances lately, taking 2/37 in his 8. Nice little 3-fer for Chung Yiu as well.

Jura CC bit GG CC hard in their encounter today.

Jura posted 310 with Tino Z spanking 97; there were two other half-centuries. Only Babar Ijaz was able to take more than one wicket.

The chase began horribly for GG as they lost their skipper Levy off the first ball of the innings…and that was when Jura’s bowlers dictated things…wickets at regular intervals while keeping the run scoring in check. Mark Jardine and Cornelius Human were the only guys to have crossed 50. And in the end, GG CC were bowled out for 276…at least it was only a 34-run loss. Not too hurtful on the NRR.

When I logged onto this game I first saw Jura's score of 310 and thought - good news. Scrolled down and saw GG were 140/5 and felt even more confident - but then the runs kept coming ..easily up with the rate , and you are nervous when names like Human and Sutherland are still at the crease (as they pop up so regularly on the forum producing match winning innings at more than a run a ball). In the end we just managed to hold onto the win - the runs were being eaten up at the required rate - and it needed our veterans Umer (23) and Bell (22) !! to hold their nerve and keep bowling straight at the tail. A very exciting watch!!

Some great results today - TMO outrating Schmaltzberg while The Buy Ins matched Morpork and then beat them in a low scoring battle!

I see Luke Giddings is on the TM. So he won't be able to get 1000 wickets for ZCC. He's been with the club for over 15 seasons; must be tough to let him go.

In a T20 vs FHK, it's been a struggle for my top order to get runs on a flat pitch. Shaffrey hits 11 (20) before being run out - hasn't been the old T20 player recently.

So, this week's DEV match for both of my teams' features:

GG CC going against India
Moo doing a battle against Pakistan.

I don't make this **** up!

Well that was a shocking effort with the bat, lol. Tried out Tiffany Yuen as opener for this game, resting 27 year old Michael Kovrig, but that isn't the root cause of the collapse. She was one of only 3 players to cross double digits! In fact, apart from Branning's 43, no other batter crossed 20. Weird game.
We rested veteran medium pacer Pong Nam as well. Was good to see Ivan Lam, Ted Hui and Joshua Wong bowl well in tandem. It was generally a positive performance. I think we chase that down more often than not. Sometimes the RNG is gonna get you, not much we can do about that.

And yes, Luke Giddings is leaving ZCC! We've just signed on former English ODI offspinner Harry Hadden for 150K. At 27 years old and 41/49 skill, he'll actually be a slight upgrade over Luke's 39/50. Harry is also just as experienced, a better bat (30/37) and a slightly better fielder (7 vs 6). With Tim Chester not quite up to first-XI standard yet and Luke declining with age, we needed someone to step in and help ease the transition. I think Harry will definitely help with that.

Luke's currently up for sale if anyone wants a veteran spinner or a potential coach/groundsman! He's been with ZCC his whole career, and is eager to spend some time at another club sharing his wisdom before he retires for good. Has 591 competitive wickets for the club in 364 matches, and has also taken 26 wickets for South Africa in International cricket. FHK have already been outbid, so let's see where he ends up :)

Good wins in the Dev yesterday. ZCC went in full strength as we're trying to hut down promotion. Sampath took a 5-fer and the Madani and Halliday hit 70s in the chase. Won with the BP but still 1 point behind first place, even though we've won more games! Stupid bonus points system. All going to come down to this final week.

FHK had fairly easier opposition - human team but rating around 26k with bot-like orders. New recruit Chow Hang-tung made her debut for FHK, having been promoted from the academy last week, and batted 116 balls for 64 runs! Great start to her career. Unfortunately we couldn't get the paperwork done in time so the scorers had her under the name 'Daud Niazi' on the scorecard, but it's good to see the runs have been credited to her career stats in the end. Andy Li hit a good 44 too as we posted up 220 (extras 3rd highest with 43), and then we bowled them out for 141 in 33 overs with a 2nd-string bowling attack, albeit featuring Ted Hui and Lester Shum. But good result for us - makes it 13 wins out of 13 games, all with Bonus Points for FHK this season! Promotion has been secured, our final game against the 2nd placed team is just for pride and an attempt at the perfect season :toot:

I am going to take this opportunity to reflect on the DEV career of GG CC's Bram Human, who recently finished his career as a youth player.

In 67 matches, he's amassed 1772 runs which is the most runs by a GG youth player...at an average of 35.44. He strikes them 108.25, by far the highest SR among batsmen who have batted more than 20 innings.

He also leads in the following:

Most sixes- 42, the next best is 13 by Peter Sutherland
Most fours- 194, the next best is 168 by Ernst Levy
Most 100s- 2
Highest individual score- 107
2nd most 50s- 8

Bowling, he is the joint-7th highest wicket-taker with 30 scalps at an average of 15.30, taking a wicket every 29.53 balls

When he is in the playing eleven, the teams usually wins 73% of the time...

What else can I say about this special Human? I know that Stumped! doesn't provide batting partnership records, but Bram and his opening partner Ernst Levy have been involved in some epic partnerships, these are some scorecards:

Moooo made 155 all out with Meyiwa batting through the innings for 74 (96)

And GG replying are 58/4 in the 14th over...the wicket is a tough one to bat on it seems...the required rate under 4, but Mooo's bowlers have been on the mark so far.

Luke Gidding's final game for ZCC ends in a 12 run loss. He bowls 4 overs for 1/63 on home turf. Yikes :(

Not the end a legend deserves, but it's been a great career nevertheless. 948 wickets in 592 games for us, including in friendlies. Bidding for his contract ends tonight, not too late to sign him up!
