Sri Lanka Vs Kenya

My thoughts about England were because it would give them something different condition-wise, and it might help liven up the CC. Also it's a lot longer season, and would give them a real chance to build a team.

Kenya 'need wider experience'

Coach Sandeep Patil has called on Australia and England to help Kenya take the next step in their cricket development.

There is natural talent in Kenya - they are born athletes and strong physically

Steve Tikolo's team caused one of the biggest upsets in World Cup history with their 53-run win over Sri Lanka in Nairobi.

And the International Cricket Council has indicated that Test status could be on the cards for Kenya in three years time.

They already have experience of playing in the sub-continent, but Patil believes they need to come to terms with conditions in Australia and England if they are to cope at Test level.

"We will improve only if we get a chance to play on different wickets in unfamilier conditions," he said.

"I am not saying England and Australia should invite us to play their best team, but we could go there and play the second string sides.

"We make regular tours of India, but the boys need to get a feel of conditions in Australia and England."

Patil, a former Indian Test batsman, agrees that Kenya should not be rushed into Test cricket if they are to avoid the problems Bangladesh have encountered since their elevation in 2000.

Kenya v Sri Lanka report

"Let them take time, we'll use it to sharpen our game.

"We certainly do not want to have a start like Bangladesh. When we get there, we should be able to compete well."

The Kenya Cricket Association is short of money, and they do not have a large pool of players, but Patil thinks there is sufficient quality available.

"There is natural talent in Kenya. They are born athletes and strong physically.

"We have improved a lot over the years. Maybe we are not in a position to beat teams like Australia consistently, but which team does that these days.

"The important thing is to hold your own against the big guns. I think we are capable of that."
