South Africa team selection

There are plenty of games before the WC squad is announced. I don’t mind Conrad sticking to his guns for a while and seeing if the spinning all rounder bit works. It’s not like Keshav is an unknown so if he needs to fall back he knows he can.
This is why I don't mind. Try all the all-rounders. Give them all opportunity.

There were positives , I think Conrad should stick with his guns, think they know what the challenges are and they are working towards it

What type of team would you like to see for the first game ?

Personally I'd go :

1.Bavuma (C)
2.Rickleton (WK)
3.Tristan Stubbs
4.Aiden Markram
5.Lhuan-dre Pretorius
6.Dewald Brevis
7.Wiaan Mulder
8.Corbin Bosch
9.Kagiso Rabada
10.Keshav Maharaj
11.Nadre Burger
Bavuma has confirmed he will be batting 3 with Markram and Rickelton opening.

They know they can't have both Bavuma and Vd Dussen but they sacrificing the better ODI player.

Breetzke also showed his capabilities in Pakistan so there are a lot of top-order players there.

Almost forces Stubbs & Brevis at 5/6 with no Miller.

Quite excited with Bosch's last 2 bowling performances. A bowler with BMT who can bowl a yorker is something we haven't had in this format in ages.

I don't agree with Markram opening, he was doing good at no.4 ..It seems like an unnecessary change ..

In 43 innings at No.4 he averages 42.92 @100 ,
At the Champions Trophy he averaged 83 at a SR of 127 coming in at no.4.

I agree and I was a backer of moving him back to open in tests but ODI's I dont think it needed changing. Unless it is because they want Bavuma, Stubbs, Brevis, Miller 3-6 for the WC

I have my worries around Miller still being good enough in a few years time still... And Bavuma struggling to stay fit. And I think we need to be playing Lhuan-dre, if he can gain experience and match his potential he and Brevis could be game breaking for us come the world cup.

Mulder and Corbin seem to be viaing for one spot. Will be interesting to see who comes out on top.

I've had my doubts about Bosch, but he seems to be proving me wrong. He's definitely a player who can make things happen with bat or ball, but my concern was around being able to do it on a consistent basis, as his career stats seemed to suggest that he had struggled with that. But it looks like he may have found some consistency, so I guess that'll be another one of Shukri Conrad's selections that's paying off.

lol missed that! Last chance for most of these blokes
It's a big series for Ngidi , I feel if he doesn't perform well we need to axe him from the odi plans..

Since 2021 he's taken 50 odi wickets @37.56 which is not good enough for a specialist fast bowler playing for South Africa. It's not like we don't have fast bowling options in odi cricket.

I'm so over him. I like consistency and he has never had that.

He bowls the slower ball so often it becomes predictable. That's not taking into account the half-trackers or full-toss slower balls he poorly executes.

I will give him the whole of this series and then the England series that comes up next. If he doesn't perform well in these two series, he should be dumped permanently. Very frustrating player.
