Can't really agree with that. That was always Tendulkar and Sehwag later on. Ganguly was always more of the guy who planned to bat long, like early career Rohit was
Are you old enough to have followed ODI cricket in late 90s? Ganguly's impact won't show up in stats easily.

And by setting the tone I don't mean scoring fast necessarily. Ganguly would blunt the opposition attack and then capitalise very often. He had some epic knocks against likes of Akram and Pollock.

Yeah kinda close depending on what exact timeframe you take. But overall Anwar was just a faster and more impactful version of Ganguly with similar consistentcy
Don't agree Anwar was better, but Ganguly went big more often. Anyways, on stats alone you would think Dravid and Ganguly were close as well. Don't think that was the case at all. Feel that's kinda true here, I think agree with Ankitj, Ganguly wasn't a dasher but set the tone of the innings well in his own way

Ganguly and Dravid aren't too close, but they aren't too far apart either imo. Ganguly easily better for me, but it's not like Ganguly was great and Dravid was mid.

Yeah don't feel I agree that much, and that's what I was saying. I can't contradict you on their respective stats alone.

Anwar was a better Odi batsman than Ganguly.

I sorted on hundreds not total runs. Top order batsmen make impact when they set the tone and then capitalise.
Even by 100s there's not that big of a difference. Ganguly just played more games than others in his era. And I'd argue going quickly early in the pp is more impactful actually for the team
