IIRC Solanki is an opening batman for his county

Yep, opens in the one day game and bats middle order in the championship.

Or rather has opened in the ODers in the last 2 (or it may have been 3) seasons.
He's still a middle-order batsman and only last year did he actually come-off as an opener - the year before he did nothing except against the mighty Cricket Board XI.

Yes, so he's an opener, before he moved there was no thought of him getting into the England set-up.

Except, of course, in 1999\2000 (and 2000 as a matter of fact) when he was picked as a middle-order batsman when no-one had ever thought of the crazy idea of him playing a role he is totally dissuited to.
