no one has brought up a valid point, least of all you
You don’t think a player only being able to play 3 tests in a 5 test series is an issue? I shouldn’t be surprised considering some of your other opinions but still…cmon.

While I agree with @Coronis that Bumrah playing only 3/5 tests is a valid concern, it has also happened with other ATG fast bowlers too, which we tend to forget.
Dale Steyn for example, never played more than 3 tests in a series in his entire career, despite SA playing a 4/5 match test series 8 times during the period.

this is one series, and as others have said, it’s pretty par for the course.

Not really. As I detailed in this post (yes I know the stats aren’t perfect - but it gives you a rough idea) I wouldn’t call that par for the course at all, with both being very much on the lower end. With Steyn it was very much exacerbated during the latter part of his career, iirc in his last 5 years he played in less than half of SA’s tests.

Would it also be possible to calculate what is the average gap between tests for each player in 4/5 match test series? I mean is there some fast way to do it instead of going and checking manually

The post doesn’t really say a whole lot. Until very recently Bumrah hasn’t been necessary in any way at home, and if you reconstitute this stat for away tests, Bumrah’s percentage will be high. Don’t see anyone making the durability argument for Lillee either

lol that doesn’t mean anything, because he was still unavailable due to injuries, and would have been selected if available

No they don’t because

1) Unlike Bumrah, Lillee is known for long spells and a heavy bowling workload

2) A large part of his missed tests (24/47) come from 5 consecutive series where WSC players weren’t selected. Removing that gives him a perfectly fine 75%, despite you know, breaking his back in the 70’s.

As I said (but you probably ignored), that stat isn’t perfect - but some reasons for lower numbers for say, WSC players, Trueman etc. are pretty obvious for anyone to figure out.

Bazball only functions on roads though, and Bumrah will play 2/3 remaining tests. The weather has been drier than ever. Do they really have a choice?
Yeah, leave some grass on, Bazball works fine even when the going is tough, Ask New Zealand or South Africa

Whatever it takes!!!
It's amazing how things change in sport , before the series people were questioning if Gill should even be in the side let alone captain , now people are half expecting him to break GOAT records !
Haha I was one of the very very few who actually posted something about this being a good move. :)

I certainly was one of his biggest haters, kinda won me over, for now. I think though my beef with him was in large parts because my father glazes him. Said he will turn up in England and I vouched will be dropped by the 4th...... Funny how 2 games can change a player's perception so much.

If I had made this poll before England Test series I am sure Babar Azam would have won , this shows how things can change in an instant in life !
