Shiv and Lara's careers overlapped extensively. So both played with more or less the same crappy players. Lara had 6 not outs in his entire career. Six!! Shiv had 49. Lara was often the last man or 2nd to last man out trying to make as many runs as possible and Shiv the complete opposite.

Nah Lara was just getting out pointlessly whilst Shiv was staying in and continuing to score.

Lara in matches involving Shiv:
84 matches 146 innings 1 NO 6947 runs @ 47.91 19 tons 28 50’s
without Shiv:
47 matches 86 innings 5 NO’s 5006 runs @ 61.80 15 tons 20 50’s

Shiv in matches involving Lara:
84 matches 146 innings 17 NO’s 5634 runs @ 43.67 12 tons 35 50’s
without Lara:
80 matches 134 innings 32 NO’s 6233 runs @ 61.10 18 tons 31 50’s

Both dragged each other down and it would’ve been better for the Windies if they didn’t play together at all. Batting in a stronger lineup actually makes your stats worse.

Who is the best batsman that Chanderpaul will win a comparison with at CW? It feels like every decent batsman is rated ahead of Chanderpaul even if there is a difference of 8-10 runs in their averages

Inzamam and Chanderpaul drew 11-11. So Shivnarine may have snuck it on another day. I think Amla is better than Inzy. Would Shiv beat Hashim?

Aside from all the discourse over batting position, he was definitely a lot more suited to slow pitches. Sub-45 SR grinders are nearly always much more suited to slow tracks, especially on flat slow tracks where defensive play is easier. Shiv's statistically least favourite ground in the Caribbean was Sabina Park, the fastest WI track in the 2000s. He also struggled in Australia.
