Security Guards at the cricket

I went to the test at the WACA for the first three days and I must say that the security guards did there very best to dull it down for the crowd. I got given small banner on my way in to the ground that said "TOP SHOT", a security guard saw it and promptly took it off me, I was startled. I then noticed through out the day as soon as the crowd began to have a bit of fun with either a beach ball or a wave the security would move in and quell the activity. I thought the crowd was very well behave especially considering the controversy after the Sydney test and leading up to the Perth test. One bloke even tried to start a cup snake and got threatend with eviction. I think the authorities need to realise that it can be a very long day sitting in the crowd at a test match or even a one dayer and let the crowd have a little bit of fun, maybe they might get a few more people back to watch Test cricket if the security isn'i so heavey handed. I realise in a wave people were throwing things into the air in the past but this was not the case in Perth yet they still came down hard on the people instigating the fun. Maybe the security would be better off looking for people creating trouble rather than people who are creating fun and let the crowd on a whole have a good time.

Yep but a blanket ban is just easier. It's crap, though. I don't think it's a coincidence that crowd numbers have declined with increased tightness through rules. Loved listening to the commentators yakk about crowd numbers at the WACA, despite that the highest crowd was around 17 000 (ground capacity 22 000) and the average around 14 000. The fun Police are doing way more to wreck a day out at the cricket than any on-field petulance by players.

I think the Aussie authorities thaught that they would have a Mumbai(Monkey) situation in response to the Sydney test and that the crowds would go for the Indians and decided to come down heavy to nip any such things in the bud.

Mind you, considering the number of pitch invasions post-match, "ineffectual" is probably a more appropriate adjective for them...

tbh crowd control at cricket in england is pretty much non existant, as trouble makers often spend their time at the football games rather than the cricket, although when I went to see Yorkshire vs Hampshire in the C&G trophy semi final a few years ago I saw some great big fat woman wearing a Hampshire shirt with "tremlett" on the back throw a pint of beer one someone and then tried to attack him, she then was ******ed out of the premises by two police officers. Thats the only time at a cricket game i have seen anything other than good behaviour tbh.

It really is taking the fun out of cricket. It's not a fotty game that lasts for 80 minutes, you're there for a whole day. Let people have some fun. It's ridiculous atm.

Apparently there's been several instances of unpleasantness at 2020 games, which have attracted people who wouldn't normally go near a cricket match. There were a few articles about the problem last summer, and it will be interesting to see what's done about it. The universal response in any sport is to pretend it doesn't happen, so I'm not holding my breath.

I was a victim of jobsworthiness from security staff at The Oval last year. I was carrying 6 pints of beer back from the refreshment van (in two of those paper carrying things) and was asked to produce my ticket to get back in to the stand. I was sitting literally two rows along fron the exit and pointed to my empty seat amongst my drinking companions & even offered to show it once I'd distributed the beer, but to no avail. I had to put the beer down on the steps (which is obviously served in those squashy skiffs at the ground), fumble for my wallet, show the ticket & then pick up the beer whilst an increasing restless queue built up behind me.

Cheeky **** then told me that the NPower girls gave away free holders for tickets for such occasions. Clearly a good man to have just after a crisis.

It is ridic. You would have felt that you would have better enjoyed it at home. Sorry they ruined your enjoyment buddy!

tbh i'm not surprised, generally these odious types tend to show up and behave in their oafish ways wherever there are enough people to create a fuss. Tbh should have security guards who can apply an ounce of common sense, to throw out the people who are actually causing a problem rather than those just getting into the spirit of things and having a good time..
