Well going by the CW ODI rankings, SA is the 2nd best ODI team in the world.

Even if you looked at the official ICC ODI Championship, SA are still No.2
lets just say that their ODI performances over the last year havent really been all that great. they didnt impress in england and were hammered in NZ. i really think that NZ are a much better side than them.

Neither have ours, we were blown away by the Aussies. But SA and India are still the two contenders for 2nd best, with NZ not too far behind.

ok if the logic for dropping the ODIs in the AUs series is because IND don't fancy their chances v AUS, what does this say about the RSA tour - that they don't like their chances v RSA in Tests??????????

but on a more serious note - I'd hardly fancy going on an Away series to such an environment as the sub continent for "just" an ODI series between 2 teams..........

I dunno if there's any logic like that. Crowds will come to watch even if the Aussies play ODI's or the Africans play tests.
Even so, what's the big deal coming over 'just' for an ODI series. Australia came over for the TVS cup. South Africa played the TVS cup in Dhaka. Maybe since we cancelled the Bangladesh series we can arrange a tri-series.

but the TVS Cup is not just between 2 teams.........and I don't know where the crowds have anything to do with IND fancying their chances v AUS, even if it was mentioned in the article.............

Well for a start there's no Test's being played, and as teams have to play a fixed number of series, an extra ODI-only series seems pointless (especially when certain teams pull out of scheduled Test series citing "tiredness")

Maybe the South African's are more interested in player welfare then chasing $s?

Especially seeing as they have to play a Test series in India in the next 6-9 months...

On espn sportscenter , the objection raised by the SA board was that 2 visits would involve more expense....they didnt mention player welfare at all.So maybe they are more interested in chasing $s.

For the past one year , India have played no ODI cricket at home save for the TVS triangular. Over the next 6 months , the SA ODIs will be the only ODI action at home for India.

How the hell is the BCCI to earn money ?Tests dont fill the coffers, ODIs do.

Show me one other major country willing to play just one ODI series at home in a period of One and a half years. :@

Just plain common sense, if you ask me.

'Killing two birds with one stone' has financial rewards of course (or rather doesn't have financial penalties), but taking the sensible approach rather than the totally nutty, stone-bonking crazy one is nothing to do with player welfare or penny-pinching - just has everything to do with not being a bonehead.

But theres no time for tests too.The UCBSA may want tests only , but the BCCI will turn around and demand 7 one dayers to be played because that was the number of one dayers india played last time in SA.

And I too frankly do not want to see 2 tests being played. Either play 3 tests now and come back later for 5/7 onedayers ( or vice versa ) or play no tests at all. 2 test series' are a joke.

West Indies played India for 7 ODIs in nov/dec 2002.

Since then , India has played just 4 one dayers ( including 1 abandoned match) in 18 months at home.

I want Onedayers in India. :@

Here we totally agree. The calendar is just too crowded, brought about in part by the fact that all the test nations have to play one another within a given time frame. Equally I agree that two tests is ridiculously short (OK against the minnows, but not against the major nations).

Yes, and the ICC require a Test series in the next 6-9 months - SA do not want to have to come back for a second time (they have other games to schedule don't forget) so need to play the Tests.

Then the ICC shouldve been smarter than trying to fit the SA tour in the short period between the Champions trophy and the Australia tour.

Wonder if the ICC would have planned for Australia to play 2 tests in England and then to return home....a quickie Ashes ?

I haven't read the whole story, but where did the probem actually arise. I mean these things were scheduled way back so what happened suddenly
