Guyana Come of Age Against Somerset

After two comfortable wins in the first two rounds of the one day competition for Season five Guyana have come out and proved they are a team to be taken seriously.

After torrential rain, the Bourda ground had a little more juice than usual and it meant that none of the batsman were able to dominate. Guyana lost the toss and were sent in by Somerset. It wasn't long before Somerset had their first wicket with Season Five hero Ardley back in the pavillion in the first over, removed for a duck in an embarrasing run out. Francis (33,33) and last week's hero Jenkins (29,38) then combined for a steadying partnership of 53. Francis was the first to fall after being caught by Zaman off the bowling of Mathur (4-36,7). Jenkins was then joined by Love (19,38) but as was the trend for the day, neither batsman was able to get on top of the bowling as Love, then Jenkins fell in quick succesion. Guyana's batsman showed great application in building partnerships, but no batsman was able to break free and provide the big innings that they needed. Useful contributions from Cole (45,53) and wicket keeper Baugh (46,48) allowed Guyana to post a relitively challenging target of 212 with Guyana all out in 44 overs.

With the pitch a little drier but by no means easier to bat on the Somerset batsman went after the Guyanan total in attack mode. However, three quick wickets had the Somerset side in trouble, Lawson (4-32,6) and Perrera (2-31,7) were able to restrict the Somerset top order. It wasn't until Zaman (47,65) and Donald (43,32) that Somerset were able to threaten Guyana, the both combined for a 64 run partnership and took Somerset to 93. Love introduced medium pacer Ardley who turned the match on its head. His nagging and consistent medium pace was, at first, punished by Donald, but Ardley was to have the last laugh removing, Donald, Rayadu (0,2) and the crucial wicket of Zaman. From there Somerset were unable to recover, a late effort by Prasad (39*,19) was not enough and he eventualy ran out of partners as Guyana brought back its big guns in Lawson and Perrera to finish off the Somerset tail.

Guyana won comfortably in the end and the coaching staff and management were pleased that the young side was able to hold out in such a tight struggle and then win with such ease.

Guyana 212 (44)

C Baugh 46 (48)
Y Cole 45 (53)
S Mathur 4-36 (7)

Somerset 182 (32)

M Zaman 47 (65)
C Donald 43 (32)
J Lawson 4-32 (6)
Z Ardley 3-65 (9)

Guyana won by 30 runs

Free State vs Auckland.

Z De Bruyn returned from injury to strengthen our side batting and bowling wise. Batting order recieved a shuffel around - mainly the top order - as certain players wern't performing leading up to this match.

It was decided that Snow, who previously batted at first drop, and failed in the last 2 games scoring a mere 30 runs from them, would move up one place and open the batting with the in form D Arendse. The move payed off from the beginning, with Snow blazing them about, him and Arendse put on 97 for the first wicket, which got us off to a solid start, before Arendse holed out to Roberts off the bowling of London. Snow and Javed put on 88 runs for the 2nd wicket, when Javed was trying to push the run rate up, and missed the ball by a good 4 inches, and was stumped by Kenway off the bowling of London.

This had us in the drivers position at 2/185 with our latest recruit - Court, and the captain - Williams yet to come. Court came in and scored a quick 33 from 31 balls before he joined Arendse in hitting it straight down the throat of Roberts. Snow was still tonking away at the other end when the captain came in, the two were playing a hitting contest for the final few overs, with Williams finishing up on 30* from 21, and Snow finishing unbeaten on a massive 183* from 156 balls. Scoreline was a very healthy 3/322 after 50 overs, the game was ours if the bowlers applied themselves.

We got off to a great start, with Hamblin taking Godwin early for 6. Roberts and Raja Ali were soon to follow, both making starts, but not continuing. J Smith came to the crease to peg back what the opening batters failed to do. O'Neil came out and hit 24 from 7 balls, leaving them at 4/110. Great position for us. However this was not to be the case, Weekes joined Smith at the crease and both blazed away, carelessly smacking our bowlers to the fence. Weekes was trapped in front for 92 (93), their keeper Kenway came and went for 6. Auckland's hero from last week R Plummer came out for the final few overs and finished up on 6*, while Smith was 116* from 100 balls.

Auckland finishing 6/327 off 47 in reply to our 3/322. I thought we were extremely unlucky to get done after posting sucha first innings total, but them things happen in cricket and we will cop it on the chin. Lots of posotives came out of the game, and even though it was a loss, it wasa hard fought loss, the main thing being, we didnt choke.

Free State - 3/322 (Y Snow 183*, D London 2/82)
Auckland - 6/327 (J Smith 116*, I Weekes 92, J Hamblin 2/47)

Auckland beat Free State by 4 wickets.

Somerset loss "Pathetic" says manager

Somerset lost their second OD match of the season yesterday with a almost depressing defeat at the hands of Guyana. "I don't want to take anything away from Guyana, they were very good, but honestly that was our worst performance in quite a while," Somerset manager deduced after the match.

The only positive Kerridge could possibly have taken out of the match was Mathur, who has impressive in taking 4 wickets, and Prasad, who bowled economically and had the Guyana batsmen in trouble, then slugged an unbeaten 39 from only 19.

Thanks mate. My main aim is still to avoid relegation in both FC and OD though!

Province rule the roost
Province made it 3 from 4 in season 6 as they cruised past Karachi. Going into the game Province felt very confident about their chances, and knew that if they played to their potential a win was assured. Trevor Darden won the toss and elected to bat again on a flat track which assured the batsman of success.

Ginger Pollock looked to spoil the part early as he set about taking two quick wickets and Province were reduced to 2-32. This bought together O Wessels who is believed to be on the verge of a 4 day spot and captain Darden together. The two looked in control from the start. It was classic one day batting with the pair rotating the strike perfectly between overs 10-40 and then really exploding in the last 10 over as both had passed their centuries. The way that Weseels was pulling the ball sent out a message to all other teams to watch out as he almost assured himself of a spot in next weeks four day encounter. At the end of 50 overs Karachi came off broken and Darden came off with 148 not and Wessels with 133 not. It was the highest OD partnership in Province history as they finished up 2-318.

The road was always going to be a long one for Karachi. They made it especially hard for themeselves as they lost 4-59 in the early overs and left the job up to the tail. Yuvraj singh and Gambhir supported Sardesai well both scoring 40's however if was Sardesai who gave them their only hope. He ended up with 80 not at the end of proceedings however the 318 was never in any real danger as Afridi kept things brilliantly under control with the ball. Karachi fell 98 short of their target...

Slats4ever "It was a good game out there today. Especially the way the bowlers kept things under control. Seeing batting like that doesn't surprise me from this side, they're definately a well oiled batting unit. Howevere our bowling has come under question, and the guys were able to knuckle down and stop any major challenge. IT was a fine performance all round"

Tassie copped a floggin by 134 runs to Surrey.

They are calling on all Available coaches who know how to win a game to come take over as the new Batting Coach.

TN thumped WA by 108 runs to make it 5 from 5. While only managing to post 7-205 the TN bowlers destroyed the visitors' batting order, WA only posting 97 in response.

However TN manager Cloete is once again ****ed off after another injury to a key TN batsman. This means that they are seriously understrength for their next 4D game. Cloete was quoted as saying "It's ****ing appauling, the injury list is far too large." As G Eaton is out for 3 weeks after a broken finger thanks to some randomly gay injury sim. O Cardew is still out for another week. So TN's batting line-up is looking shocking thanks to injuries which is just ****ing brilliant.

shame cloete...

Warwickshire crushed Colts by 8 wickets and lead division 2 on run rate at the moment. pascoe picked uip 4 more wickets, which takes his haul to 14 wickets for only 83 runs this season. With Warwickshire and Tamil Nadu already four points clear of third place it looks like we have another battle on our hands for the title just like last season and we all know what happened last season btw...

Funny that, I don't remember him ever making such a comment when the random rookies were distributed...
