Free State vs Auckland.
Z De Bruyn returned from injury to strengthen our side batting and bowling wise. Batting order recieved a shuffel around - mainly the top order - as certain players wern't performing leading up to this match.
It was decided that Snow, who previously batted at first drop, and failed in the last 2 games scoring a mere 30 runs from them, would move up one place and open the batting with the in form D Arendse. The move payed off from the beginning, with Snow blazing them about, him and Arendse put on 97 for the first wicket, which got us off to a solid start, before Arendse holed out to Roberts off the bowling of London. Snow and Javed put on 88 runs for the 2nd wicket, when Javed was trying to push the run rate up, and missed the ball by a good 4 inches, and was stumped by Kenway off the bowling of London.
This had us in the drivers position at 2/185 with our latest recruit - Court, and the captain - Williams yet to come. Court came in and scored a quick 33 from 31 balls before he joined Arendse in hitting it straight down the throat of Roberts. Snow was still tonking away at the other end when the captain came in, the two were playing a hitting contest for the final few overs, with Williams finishing up on 30* from 21, and Snow finishing unbeaten on a massive 183* from 156 balls. Scoreline was a very healthy 3/322 after 50 overs, the game was ours if the bowlers applied themselves.
We got off to a great start, with Hamblin taking Godwin early for 6. Roberts and Raja Ali were soon to follow, both making starts, but not continuing. J Smith came to the crease to peg back what the opening batters failed to do. O'Neil came out and hit 24 from 7 balls, leaving them at 4/110. Great position for us. However this was not to be the case, Weekes joined Smith at the crease and both blazed away, carelessly smacking our bowlers to the fence. Weekes was trapped in front for 92 (93), their keeper Kenway came and went for 6. Auckland's hero from last week R Plummer came out for the final few overs and finished up on 6*, while Smith was 116* from 100 balls.
Auckland finishing 6/327 off 47 in reply to our 3/322. I thought we were extremely unlucky to get done after posting sucha first innings total, but them things happen in cricket and we will cop it on the chin. Lots of posotives came out of the game, and even though it was a loss, it wasa hard fought loss, the main thing being, we didnt choke.
