It is a great comparison, I am really not sure who is better here. On song Akhtar could be devastating anywhere, but he was extremely prone to breaking down. Jadeja was more consistent and exceptionally well in India, but his away record has questions and he plays second fiddle to Ashwin.

If you account for consistency and longevity, Jadeja wins this
but sheer impact has to be Akhtar. Akhtar was a frontline bowler who could lead any attack in the world, Jaded is a fantastic cricketer but only a support bowler, he can’t even lead India”s attack in India.

this one isn’t close

Yeah, but Akhtar played 45 tests in 15 friggin years. That's a ridiculously low output. Although when on song Akhtar could run through ATG batting line ups but he was rarely on the field.

My observation is that Pak posters overrate Imran and underrate their other outstanding cricketers - Akram, Miandad, etc - even Akhtar

I dunno. I consider Akhtar the most dangerous bowler ever if we are just talking short spells. But he basically had like one series in his career he was actually fully fit for.

Not really. I rate Akram and Miandad both pretty high. Akhtar was incredible when he was bowling well, but 45 tests in 15 years tells you something

Yeah, Shoaib is better here.

There's been a an over emphasis on longevity of late, playing longer doesn't make one better.

Yep, or even finish a single Test without getting crocked.

Shoaib was unfairly OP when fit, that sadly rarely lasted for two consecutive innings.
To be fair, he suffered because there was no other strike bowlers in the attack so he had to do dog overs he wasn't built for and broke down. Sami killed his career lol.

Yeah he's a player who could never make it near an ATG XI because his accomplishments just weren't enough to consider him amongst the "greatest", but if you were doing a hypothetical exercise just picking the best possible XI for a one-off game there wouldn't be many ahead of him.

Jadeja and Woakes are probably the only 2 I’d have ahead of him for a one off game
