The pitches were roads and scoring and subsequently risk taking was slow and low respectfully.
Also modern umpires were much more willing to give front foot lbw decisions in latter years than back then.

Gibbs obviously. Even by his era's standards, he was incredibly accurate. More supportive pitches and I can't imagine how much better his record would look.

It's bad, but era tax. In this era, his ER would be way higher but his SR would be lower
Let alone DRS which would have had a huge impact on the number of lbws a spinner of that era would receive. My guess is that Gibbs had a far wider range of skills as a bowler than what Jadeja had and probably spun the ball a good deal harder. It was really disappointing to see how negative Jadeja was in England.

Jadeja is a defensive bowler. Ashwin is much better to watch imo.

Clearly Jadeja is an attacking bowler on pitches that spin from ball one, as they have done in the vast majority of matches in the last few years in India. However, on flatter surfaces there is no doubt that he is reduced to a defensive role and Ashwin has a far greater range of skills in which to pick up wickets. Ashwin caused Cook plenty of problems in the 2018 series, although by then Cook was obviously on his way out.
