Better test cricketer?
not a relevant data pointaren't those the only two opponents/away locations both men can share?
Correct. The bar has to be a lot higher for people who played in preprefessional cricket to be compared with people who played in the professional era.A lot of guys has to be taken less seriously, it seems.
Doug Walters, Charles Macartney and Washington Sundar (for now) do tooAubrey Faulkner : The only cricketer to average 40+ with the bat and less than 30 with the ball.

I think a min WPM of 1.5 should also be appliedDarren Lehmann: 66 runs and 0.55 WPM
Washington Sundar: 52 runs and 2.77 WPM
These are the only 5 with a min of 10 test wickets
Alastair Cook: 77 runs and 0.006 WPMI think a min WPM of 1.5 should also be applied
Faulkner was a Clarke-level batsman and a Flintoff-level bowler.I really don't get how Faulkner is better than Ashwin here. Is there an explanation that isn't largely nostalgia/overrating older players?
That's a very useless descriptor tbh. I don't see how that combination is better than Ashwin.Faulkner was a Clarke-level batsman and a Flintoff-level bowler.
Normally I don’t rate the pre-war greats that highly.I really don't get how Faulkner is better than Ashwin here. Is there an explanation that isn't largely nostalgia/overrating older players?
