Quarter Finals

Funny thing was, SA had the upper-hand until the formation of the Tri-Nations. I think it was 21-18 at that point, which would make it 21-44 since. They also haven't beaten NZ in a World Cup game since 1995. And yes, they had that blow-out in the warm-ups, but it was a warm-up ffs. The last time these two teams really squared off with each other in a serious contest was in last year's rugby championship, where the games were split 1-1. It'll be a cracking final, pity we have to wait 2 weeks to watch it.
We did humiliate you the the losers playoff in 1999

So it looks like the winners will once again be either NZ or SA, thus making it 5 World Cups on the trot. Given the way the game is heading, it seems hard for it to be any different in the future. This looked the best chance for the Northern Hemisphere to win a 2nd World Cup, that it hasn't happened here doesn't bode well. Should we be surprised that the two only nations who effectively have Union as their Number 1 sport dominate? The problem is, the sport is in big trouble in most other countries. Ireland's generational talent won't last much longer, there's huge issues for the game in both Australia and England. If France couldn't get the job done on home soil with this team, then they won't elsewhere.

Is it becoming as predictable as League World Cups?

Soccer/football is SA's number 1 sport... by a long long way!

And as a secondary... Its not like France and or Ireland played poorly; they keep this level up and they will win a RWC. The difference between the SA and NZ setups, NZ in particular, is that they always have a team that is competitive. This is the chance that France and Ireland need to continue building on, not give up!

Hmmm, currently ranked 66 in the world. Participation is one thing, but taken as seriously at the top level?
Yes... by a lot of people, what Rugby has over Soccer in SA is structure and better uncorrupted finances. What Rugby has done is developed the player base across the board and brought some of those soccer loving players into Rugby.

Soccer (and I use that because that's what it is called in SA) has it problems not due to love of the game, participation or want to win, but all the other problems that stretch across SA on an economic and corruption level.

I thought Ireland had a pretty good youth/school rugby system?
Not saying they don't. But this was the best team they've ever taken to a World Cup by some margin, and they still couldn't get past a QF against one of the weaker NZ sides we've seen.

Mate you do great service to this forum and I'll always read your posts with interest.

That is, except for rugby union, where you have now officially been thrown in the bin.
All those 3 other games could easily have gone the other way (and I was just trying to put the mockers on Fiji). I think it's just a bit sad that neither France or Ireland could get the job done, and thus we're left with another NZ/SA winner. Not sure that's good for rugby as a sport in general.

A few days ago many were picking all 4 quarters to be won by the NH, and that could've easily happened. The matches could've easily gone the other way.

There is no reason why the NH can't win the next 3 or 4 RWCs.

This All Blacks side is considered weak because they're stupidly inconsistent not because the team is significantly worse than other sides. Ireland would've blown them off the park if they had anywhere near an off day.
Agree. I also think have a quartet of strong young props and a big 12 in Jordie has made a huge difference from the last couple of years.

Thoroughly tampered with and mismanaged Africa style.

Also Englsnd being the last Northern Hemisphere nation standing is giving Groundhog Day

But if France can't beat SA in Paris with arguably the best team they've ever had, how do they win one of the next World Cups? They at least do have money in their game unlike others.

Football is much more global as a sport and African nations are up against European and South American teams who are better resourced and who aren't drawing their talent pool from people living in poverty.

This is such a crap take.
And what was your take? The N Hemisphere had 2 of the top 3 ranked nations, France were at home. Yeah, the draw could've been kinder, but you've got to play them at some point. 3 out of 4 semi finalists are S Hemisphere and even NZ fans were suggesting this could be the worst team they've ever taken to a World Cup. They've obviously improved during the tournament, but it's still a long way from their 2015 version.
