Ready for it.....Adam Gilchrist
Before his test debut this is, really didnt think he'd go down to well in the longer form of the game, didnt think his batting was suitable and hadnt seen enough of his keeping to be convinced.
Matthew Hayden, during the 5-0 whitewash of the West Indies he looked dire against (besides Walsh) a very ordinary attack, I thought by the time of the 2001 ashes series Elliott would have his place....he subsequently did well in India and has averaged about 60 ever since.
Shane Warne (2001), now obviously he'd already made it, had 350+ test wickets and was generally regarded the greatest spinner ever, but after his injuries and controversies the previous year and the way he was dismantled in India I thought the end was nigh....
Paul Collingwood, during the 02/03 VB series him and Owais Shah were competing for one place in the world cup squad, and I must admit I liked the look of shah better, had a better domestic record and he was a more fluid, technically efficient looking player than Collingwood, alas Collingwood got that hundred against Sri Lanka and now he's the ODI captain whereas Shah's been a fringe player at best ever since, funny how one innings can have such great impact on two players carears.
Ashwell Prince, when I first saw him he appeared very gutsy but technically limited against the quicks and clueless against wrist spin, spose it dosent take a huge lot of ability to score runs these days though
