Players who made their international debut in wrong format

I remember when T20 started, International teams had no idea about the format and just used to throw players in T20 matches such as Jonathan Trott who made his debut in T20 for England and there are many other players as well such as Agar who made his debut for Australia in Tests but played really few Test matches after that.

Wouldn't say wrong format exactly, but David Warner in T20s. He would turn out to be one of the best Test openers in the world at one point and just a good, not great, T20I opener

Ashwin made his debut in ODIs but doesn't play that format anymore

Gilbert Jessop though you can't fault him for not playing any of the shorter stuff

Yes and Rahul Dravid made his international debut in tests.

Edit Actually I just checked, and he made his debut in an ODI, so that would be good call. Even though he became a good ODI player later on.

Younis Khan made his debut in ODIs and perhaps that was enough to convince him he was an odi player.

Roger Twose started his international career in tests. Averaged 25 in that format and 40 in ODIs

bancroft debuted in some random t20i where watson tonned up against india a few years back, whereas he really should've debuted in a wood sanding and finishing course

To be fair, Trott started off T20 as one of the better openers and warranted a call up, odd as it seems with the way his career panned out.

Yeah there are tons of players who debut in ODIs even though they're better in tests just because teams get through a much bigger roster in ODI cricket, and tend to rest their senior players from them regardless of how well suited they are.

It's much harder to think of an example of a player who was much better in ODIs but debuted in Tests.

Tendulkar made his Test debut before ODI, but was pretty awesome at both

Shoaib Akhtar, Brett Lee and Malinga all made Test debuts before ODIs, all were arguably better at ODIs
