Mr. Glass
4th test ratings india

gill - 9/10. doesn't get better than a 4th inning 100 while chasing that he almost pulled off

rohit - 7/10. was safe in the slips in the third innings of the game and gave us an okay start in the first innings. would have been 4/10 if he was no good in the slips easily

pujara - 8/10. for tiring opposition bowlers over his innings and making them easier to play for the other aggressive batters

rahane - 5/10 for batting but 10/10 for his captaincy and as a whole package

agarwal - 3/10. should have made his start in the first innings count more

pant - 10/10. finished it off. wag.

sundar - 9/10. got smith out first up, jammy af with the bat in the first dig. bopped cummins out of the attack in the chase. flipped the momentum in our favor decisively with those two shots in the end.

thakur - 10/10. fearless batting, jammy bowling. almost got a pfeiffer in the second innings.

saini - 2/10. injured. bunny.

natarajan - 7/10. did more than what was expected off him in the first innings with 3 wickets but lost pace quickly after one day of bowling. expect more from a bowler who has had so much time to rest. maybe he can get better. also looks like someone who can bowl to a plan with discipline even if he cannot do what the top bowlers in the world can do atm. great support bowler in a pinch.

siraj - 10/10. all heart. has a bit of skill too. 5 for at the gabba. enough said.

Series overall:

Australia

Burns 2 - one 50 when the pressure was well off, otherwise total garbage. He's done as a Test prospect, at least opening.
Wade 3 - kudos for stepping up to open. But really this was not good. Did at least manage starts but threw a lot of them away and at really awful times for Australia. Time to go.
Labuschagne 8 - definitely rode his luck to some degree, but still easily the leading runscorer on either side. Managed important contributions in all matches and generally proved an important cog in the lineup.
Smith 7 - was awful in the first two Tests, stepped it up in the last two. Probably still somewhat short of his absolute best but still managed big contributions in the last two Tests, ones that really should've defined the game.
Head 3 - technical weakness worked out and it meant he couldn't really kick on with anything. I do wonder whether he would've done better against weaker attacks in Sydney and Brisbane, though.
Green 6 - needs work but did reasonably well with the bat, and improved as the series went on. His ability to dig in and bat time stood out from the average Aussie bat who seemed satisified with 25(40). Poor with the ball but might've done better with more trust and longer spells. Fielding was top-notch.
Paine 5 - he did bat very well at least. But arguably dropped the series with a poor display with the gloves at Sydney and captaincy was....not good. He was far too reactive and just seemed to have no real ideas of how to get batsmen out when the bowlers weren't on absolute fire.
Cummins 9 - world-class as always. Could probably count the number of bad balls he bowled with one hand. The spell at Adelaide was crucial towards setting up a dramatic win and nearly pulled off a miracle here.
Starc 5 - poorly as he bowled in the last two Tests, he also started the series really well which is kind of forgotten given everything and drags his score up. But those last two Tests were quite ghastly and really series defining. Not sure why they played him at Brisbane given he was looking kind of cooked in Sydney.
Lyon 4 - I'm not sure he bowled as poorly as his figures suggested and maybe was somewhat unlucky, but still not a good series. Looked bereft of ideas of how to dismiss batsmen and just lacked consistent threat. Failure to produce match-winning hauls in both 5th day situations a real, real worry too.
Hazlewood 9 - like Cummins was outstanding. Somewhat tired today but other than that always looked hard to get away, and managed two outstanding 5-fers.
Warner 3 - probably shouldn't have played. I'm not sure whether he either was adjudged to be fully fit by Australian physios or whether he wasn't but they felt the need to take a risk anyway, in any case neither are too good of a sign for him. Looked a bit better here but didn't kick on.
Pucovski 6 - some luck with catches but still a decent first Test. Shame about that shoulder.
Harris 3 - did at least manage a start. Dismissals still poor though and misjudged a catch that might well have been crucial. Shouldn't be first-choice.

India

Shaw 0 - disaster of a series, just looked horribly inept. Had he survived the whole series Australia might well have won.
Agarwal 2 - not quite as awful as Shaw but still a bad series. Managed a start batting middle-order but still threw his wicket away at a really crucial time.
Pujara 7.5 - underwhelming series in terms of runs scored, but managed marathon innings that really helped India's chances twice. For that deserves massive kudos.
Kohli 7 - if he wasn't sawn off by Rahane he might've made a big match-defining ton in his only Test. Would've been interesting to see how things would've gone if he played the whole series.
Rahane 7.5 - one big ton, not much else. But that ton was a match-winner. Furthermore, his captaincy was outstanding, turning a series on its head in a situation where India may not have been blameless if they folded.
Vihari 5 - very little by the way of runs, but one great match-saving knock at Sydney will ensure he goes down in history.
Saha 3 - looked awful in the only Test he actually played. Did well as a sub keeper in Sydney.
Ashwin 9 - thought he'd really struggle. Instead, was India's main go-to bowler for the first two Tests. Did get attacked more comfortably at Sydney but managed a really important innings with the bat there. World-class.
Yadav 6 - inconsistent but did manage some huge blows with the ball and ensured that Australia's batting could not find an easy out in the first two Tests before getting injured.
Bumrah 7.5 - looked sore at times and arguably overbowled, but didn't seem to matter that much. Was generally very good and could be relied upon for key breakthroughs throughout the match.
Shami 8 - no wickets but I thought he bowled really well in his only Test before his broken arm, he could quite easily have taken a good 4/5-fer in that innings the way he was bowling.
Gill 8 - huge find. Maybe he could've kicked on with one more of his starts, but the 90-odd here was a really crucial innings and looked in deft touch throughout. He's gonna be a star.
Pant 8 - loses a mark because of some bad keeping. But with the bat was outstanding. Two outstanding 5th day knocks will be the thing of legend.
Jadeja 9 - world-class before having his thumb ****ed. His spell at Sydney turned what looked to be a case of Australia batting India out of the game into a much more competitive one where India came out being the much better team.
Siraj 7.5 - excellent at Melbourne. I think he erred a bit too much on the shorter side in Sydney and Brisbane but still managed a number of key wickets and got a well deserved 5-fer for his troubles.
Sharma 5 - frustrating. Looked good in his starts but threw them away in dramatic fashion. At least it didn't cost India.
Saini 4 - I was expecting a disaster here. While he did offer more free runs than most of the other Indian bowlers, he still managed a few key breakthroughs and did manage a decent spell second innings at Sydney. Still, probably the weak link of the Indian attack.
Sundar 8.5 - amazing Test for someone who hadn't played FC cricket in 3 years. Batting was outstanding and bowling was very important first dig.
Thakur 8.5 - very similar to Sundar. Thought he'd be crap, but instead took a lot of wickets and managed a really crucial knock first innings.
Natarajan 5 - kept it tight and bowled well to a plan, but I do think his wickets were a tad jammy and lacked penetration, especially in the second innings. Still, it could've been much worse.

Overall series ratings from OS

India
Agarwal 2-
Pretty bad, somehow now finds himself way down in the pecking order after entering the series as #1 opener
Rohit 7- Ok @cnerd123 I know you hate him. But he walks into the side as opener. Might also walk out of the crease and do something braindead every few overs. But its the best we've got. Useful runs in every innings.
Gill 9- Probably our best batsman in the series. maybe the most fluent on either side? Looks absolute class, still needs work on his technique outside off to truly reach world class status in the future. But right now, looks a talent for the ages.
Shaw 0- Team is better without him
Kohli 3- Team is better without him
Pujara 8- Was that the 33 average greatest series batting performance ever? Well its up there. Frustrated australia's bowlers, commentators and intent memers all around the world. Unironically wouldnt have done this if Kohli was captain.
Rahane 8- One series defining ton for the ages, but not much else apart from a couple of little cameos (despite the bad shot today, his 20 odd was definitely useful at that stage). But the man showed immense balls to turn this around after the disaster of adelaide and kohli leaving. Greater men (the few there are) would have folded under the kind of pressure he was under.
Vihari 7- All for that one innings which kept India alive. Might not get that many chances for India going forward, but played a ballsy unselfish knock and gave us one of the most badass tweets of recent times. Also I got a lot of likes posting that tweet so he gets an extra point.
Pant 9- "He's a hack" "Saha is better" "Even Bradman wouldnt hold his place in the team if he kept like Pant" (this was said unironically). No. **** off.
Jadeja 8- Better batsman, bowler, fielder, human being than Shane Warne
Ashwin 9.5- For me, India's man of the series despite not playing the last test. Brilliant with the ball in the first two, and despite a relatively underwhelming-but-still-better-than-Lyon performance in the third, played with the kind of guts and anti-intent that non-Khawaja Australian batsmen can only dream of. Wish he worked on his fitness but Ashwin ashwon this series for us.
Umesh 6- Bowled ok, got injured, has a good nickname
Shami 6- Looked great before getting his arm broken by intimidatory bowling^tm
Bumrah 7- Not as dominant as some of his other series but had tons of catches dropped off him. Still fantastic.
Siraj 8- Cant say enough good things about this guy. Lost his father, forced to stay due to covid protocols, apparently made up racist abuse because he was under so much pressure ( 8) ), and comes out and bowls like that. Highly impressive, will probably move ahead of Umesh in the pecking order.
Natarajan 6- For a literal net bowler to come and not just not disgrace himself but also pick up key wickets in a series decider in Australia is more amazing than its being given credit for. Hard to see him playing for India again but what a memorable contribution.
Saini 3- More like Draini. Look he wasnt good, but he didnt bowl much worse with a groin strain than without. Is that an indictment on his bowling? maybe. But it was still gutsy he bowled at all.
Shardul Thakur 9- The Lord title started off ironic and only took a couple of days to quickly turn unironic. Match turning innings with the bat at 180/6, 7 important wickets, Only bowler to be warned for #IntimidatoryBowling. Was the most important player of a series winning test match in Australia. Lord, indeed.
Sundar 8- Ati Sundar. Outbowled Lyon, doesnt have a melon of a head, brilliant partnership with thakur rescued the game and a nice cameo at the end with pant pretty much sealed it. His bowling needs work, but his batting looks like an enormous asset.

Australia
Burns 1-
Got good balls but made them look better.Bad batsman.
Wade 2- Bad batting, was a petulant **** on the field, not as good as head.
Warner 3- Looked half fit. Horrific facial hair.
Pucovski 4- Looked decent when he wasnt finding new ways to kill himself.
Labuscaghne 6- Am I being harsh? I've genuinely not seen a luckier series performance in ages. Looked dreadful for long stretches but still deserved credit for taking advantage of his good fortune. His "lolrandom" antics are cringeworthy.
Smith 6- Roared back with a brilliant ton after an embarassing start to the series where he got owned by the greatest visiting spinner to ever tour Australia. Not getting questioned at sydney 2nd innings on his SR like Pujara was was annoying.
Head 3- Better than Wade?
Green 5- Bowling was basically a non factor, but has some promise with the bat (if he adds the 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears). Absolute monster at gully, saved about 60-70 runs it felt like.
Paine 4- Not the problem. Ok he's one of the problems but pretending replacing him will solve everything is rubbish. Bowling plans werent good, but letting the bowlers get away with zero blame is a very australian thing.
Cummins 9- Really couldnt have done much more. Was a monster every time he bowled. Bowled an absurd number of overs at full tilt without getting injured or losing stamina. Hmmmmm, very interesting.......???
Starc 4- I was right, trundler was right, suck it. No but seriously, without the pink ball, he looks half the bowler. Doesnt clean up the tail, doesnt keep the runs down, wastes the new ball... Australia have enough depth in their pace bowling to not think this is the best they can do.
Hazelwood 8- Looks like an overgrown hobbit, but fmd he's good.
Lyon 3- Megamind has a big head , a big vein and not a big brain, nor a big heart. Ok thats harsh, but with lots of assistance from the pitch he was again disappointing and getting outbowled by every spinner India trotted out is embarassing.

Cheers

Cricket Web: All-Time Legend
Warner 0 - Nick Larkin on one leg would have accomplished more.
Harris 0 - Plays the bouncer worse than Pujara
Pucovski 4 - Got lucky, but might have had a Gill-like series had he been there the entire time.
Burns 7 - The fact he hit 50 despite being in the worst form of his life speaks volumes of his utility.
Labuschagne 5 - Probably the only batting factor keeping us in it consistently through the series.
Smith 4 - The man loses his own hands. Enough said
Wade 1 - I had thought he might be useful. But his shots were the equivalent of busting your nut before your **** cage can even be unlocked.
Head 8 - Scapegoated despite consistent contributions. Treated worse than Fawad Alam.
Green 0 - He's over, proven failure. Made the same contribution a present-day Hilton Cartwright would have.
Cummins 10 - He is Hercules, Achilles, Jason and any other Greek Hero of mythology piled into one. It's a miracle he hasn't broken yet and the day will come where some chad who looks like Orlando Bloom will fire an arrow into his heel and end any chance of necromancy being successfully performed on Australian cricket
Starc 0 - There was an argument that he either takes lower or top order wickets more often. The real shame is that he took up our collective times this summer.
Hazlewood 6 - Yes he and Glenn McGrath have commonalities. Only he is to Glenn McGrath what beautiful rare, endangered commodities of beasts are to Glenn McGrath.
Lyon 0 - Outbowled by literally and unironically everybody.
Neser 10 - Carried the drinks perfectly and had no contribution to the failure
Henriques 10 - As above

If I forgot anyone, they're below worthless.

You know how far Kohli's stocks have fallen when many on social media don't want him back .
His only achievement as captain was that he won a series against Aus in 18. Now Rahane has equalled that without much fuss and over the top drama.
