Top ten but not top 5.If you never heard of Viv Richards and just saw his record, where would you rate him?

As it should be obvious with my views regarding people like Boycott, Compton, Weekes, Walcott, Worrell Trueman, May and Sutcliffe, I read a lot into Cricket so most probably I'd have him lower on first reading but as I read more and a strong opinion develops I'd have them similarly high as I do right now, maybe a little lower. Most people however don't read into Cricket so I think the majority from raw numbers would just place people low without doing their own research.If you never heard of Viv Richards and just saw his record, where would you rate him?

True.Top ten but not top 5.
Hm, definitely below Hutton, probably alongside Smith, while Lara alongside Hammond.How much lower?
Yeah Viv doesn't standout on any measure except SR though he isn't weak in any major one. It's his peer rating that gets him up to top tier.True.
Viv’s raw numbers are not that impressive.
TBH I feel even Sachin will be judged differently in future. I already see in some forums that Sangakkara and Kallis are better & Dravid was his equal.
Absolutely not. It's his multiple ATG series against multiple ATG and ATVG bowlers regularly.Yeah Viv doesn't standout on any measure except SR though he isn't weak in any major one. It's his peer rating that gets him up to top tier.
Reminds me of when I watched Richie Benaud’s Greatest XI. First time I heard of Viv. First time I heard of Barnes too, for that matter.If you never heard of Viv Richards and just saw his record, where would you rate him?
@Johan @subshakerz
What about Barnes?Maybe I would have had Maco instead of Lillee and Hadlee instead of Imran but other than that great
Of course that tooAbsolutely not. It's his multiple ATG series against multiple ATG and ATVG bowlers regularly.
That's the prime reason.Of course that too
Sure.That's the prime reason.
3.5 times the bowler Alan Davidson was.What about Barnes?
Oh thats some sad overcompensation3.5 times the bowler Alan Davidson was.
1.3 times the bowler Alan Davidson was?Oh thats some sad overcompensation
Yeah thats why I rate Hill above Trumper, Trumper’s average was below 50.At least Viv retired with a 50+ average. If he averaged 49, many that didn’t watch him bat might not even rate above Dravid.
