International Coach
We can't "assume Cummings retires tomorrow" without affording Garner the opportunity to have part of his career discarded. This is always the problem when comparing past and present players.

In all seriousness though I’ve heard both talked about as the ideal first change bowlers so just a check up on their opening (1/2) stats vs 3/4 stats

Opening

Garner 49 innings 127 @ 20.22, 5 5’fers
Cummins 54 innings 126 @ 23.14, 5 5’fers

First/Second Change

Garner 61 innings 129 @ 21.86, 2 5’fers
Cummins 61 innings 143 @ 22.00, 7 5’fers

Garner also has one innings (3/44) bowling 5th

Garner all the way, as a 3rd seamer he could reduce his pace and bowl all day with unerring accuracy and his height was apparently quite disconcerting.

From what I recall and have read. Not as fast as Maco and Mikey, but when he got the new ball he was supposedly above fast medium. Not express, but fast.
