Overused terms in cricket journalism/writing/punditry

Not: for 'Not Out'. I find it really ****ing annoying. Sounds like something the cool kids would come up with at the back of the bus to try to distinguish themselves from all the plebs who speak normally.
I'd never heard that one before now, but it has annoyed me instantly.

"I don't know who wrote the script": nobody did you daft ****. It's called life and it happens randomly - if you did well, maybe it's because you're a good cricketer.
Ha, I remember in Warney's final series he seemed to use that line several times every interview. Not sure I've heard it much since, but he over-used it enough during those few weeks to cover everyone else for the rest of time.

Yeah, 'Not' is incredibly annoying. "Smith finished on 110 not". Just say 'not out' you smarmy ****.

And I still hear sportspeople across many different sports talking about "not knowing who wrote the script". It's as bad as thanking God for something you trained your whole life for. There are no scripts, just random events at random points in time whose outcomes are largely influenced by the athlete's ability.

Rats. And I can't find it elsewhere in twenty seconds of trying. It had Ian Chappell commentating on the toss with Allan Border and Javed Miandad (and betting on it). Chappell's summary: "Allan Border has elected to run with the wind towards the Paddington end, and that means Pakistan will have the kickoff." Benaud's frustrated reaction follows.

When a boundary fielder attempts to take a catch but fails..."he's done all the hard work in getting there" Eh no. Part of an athlete is being able to run quickly across short distances
