First time they pick Cook it's on a flat pitch.
in the same way some folk were hoping he picked up a stack of wickets to give the selectors an ‘I told you so’. I don’t see how one game proves them right. I have my thoughts that Cook would trouble to be effective against good batters away from seam friendly conditions but you can’t rule him out on one match alone.

I have been at the chav derby today, aka Surrey v Essex so I have only seen snippets but this is my view.

We'll be seeing flat wickets throughout the English summer into the India series I believe. It's the best way to neutralize India (aka Bumrah) and win the series for them because our guys won't make runs away from home even on flat wickets.

You could ask Bumrah to bowl on the M25 and he'd still take plenty of wickets.

depends on how dry the summer is.

feeling a bit down for Sam Cook, having to bowl on such a flat wicket against Zimbabwe, should've really debuted against India, would have to bowl against a weaker batting unit on most likely spicier pitches

For sure, but why boycott in the first place then, if you boycott fatigue just lets the bad hombres win in the end?

And easy for us to say there's more to life than politics but we're not getting beaten by ZANU-PF thugs or being kept in jail for months without trial because we opposed the government.
Not sure if he's ever gone back to Zimbabwe since the black armband incident, but Henry Olonga was on TMS, I'll have to catch what he said at lunch

Interesting that Bashir looks so awful at county level but at Test level has shown that he is worth investing in. Is it down to pitch differences? Or is it more of a case of the kind of bowler he is (e.g. capable of great deliveries but bowls pies outside of it)?

Selectors must b v happy, all 3 players under the media spotlight did well. But the comms hilited the fact that bash does
pitch it all over the wkt which is surely down to how lttle FC cricket hes played outside tests.

seems like more of the latter. seems he does have a nut in him. also spinners rely so much on confidence you don't believe. speaking as a spinner myself. it's hard to find a spinner that has bat-beating turn, when you do, you have to give him confidence
