England's top 7 looks almost as settled now as the Strauss era, and has the added strength of Bethell waiting in the wings. Not sure many other sides can say that at the mo (well they can't). Which means they'll probably just disappoint me as usual....

Yeah but there’s no point being settled if you’re just a pipe of **** set in stone

Root wouldn’t make a Shield side here. Brook is a hapless slogger, Duckett barely got out of second grade for Parra, and unless you’re talking about Steve Smith, I genuinely don’t know who you’re talking about

The WTC was fantastic and possibly the greatest thing ever for south african red-ball cricket. It showed how the longest format is ideally suited for a World cup. No months-long group stage but straight knock-out cricket. I would add semi finals and then quarters for an 8-team world cup.

Qualifying should be somewhat based on rankings but leading to a qualifying series. Pointless loss-making randomn two-match series are not going to continue. Ireland can play tests but rarely want to. If they scheduled a test againts WI, they would lose money because no one cares. But if the winner qualified for the WTC that would be very very different.

You keep your head stuck in the sand, but you know there's issues when English fans wouldn't swap Zak Crawley for an Aussie opener!!

We'd take the bowling line up though, but whether they can keep bailing out that horrific batting unit (well they couldn't at Lord's) remains to be seen.

I ended up with a repeat final, though poor weather could really move around those top 6 a lot. The Pakistan vs NZ series might actually be a bit of a semi final.

The Aussie team would love to have Duckett, Root, Brook and Smith.....
Duckett, Brook and Smith are unproven in Australia and could turn out to be duds over there. They are still early in their careers.

Honestly speaking, Australia would only take Root out of the four.
