it is the World Cup's loss not to have the inaugural and two times champions there, would be inclined to rewrite the format so any team that has won it qualifies automatically - would thus far only be Australia (5), West Indies and India (2), and England, Pakistan and Sri Lanka (1). And if that means they have to accommodate 16 at the finals to make sure eg New Zealand, South Africa et al also qualify automatically so be it.
I mean if we're worried about teams getting "absolutely smoked" I'm sure there'll be others taking windies' place.... bet they'd still rather be there than not
