Bad news: The 2021 Women's ODI WC is going to be only 8 teams, with 4 teams automatically qualifying and another 4 being decided through the ongoing Women's Championship + a WC Qualifier Tournament

Fun News: India is not one of the teams that automatically qualifies and the internet does not like that
Which four teams automatically qualify?

Which four teams automatically qualify?
It's a brilliant story.

In October 2017, the ICC initially announced that the Hosts + the Top 3 sides from the Women's Championship would automatically qualify, with the other 4 spots being decided by a WC Qualifier Tournament. NZ, being the hosts, automatically got through. The Women's Championship featured 8 teams (Eng, Aus, NZ, SA, Ind, PK, SL, WI), and all 8 teams had to play each other in a 3-match ODI series, meaning 21 games per team with 2 points for each win, and NRR being the tiebreaker. Fantastic concept.

As of October 2018, India Women had lost 7 of their 9 games, and so the rules were conveniently changed to make it so that the hosts + 4 teams from the Womens Championship would qualify for the next stage.

As it stands right now, Australia (1st), England (2nd) and SA (3rd) have secured enough points from the 21 games to make it to the next stage. Australia and SA are actually through to the next stage despite having played just 18 games each - they face each other later this month.

In 4th and 5th place are India (20 points) and Pakistan (16 points), with both teams only left to face each other. This series will decide who makes it through automatically, and who has to play the Qualifier.

However, thanks to BCCI/PCB politics, there is no date or venue fixed yet for this series. As per what I can find out:
Pakistan’s fixture against India couldn’t take place as the PCB didn’t receive the invitation from the BCCI. With the series window already closed, the matter has now been referred to the ICC event secretariat in Dubai
Hope India get forced into the qualifier tournament tbh.

Whatever it takes!!!
You just know the ICC will come up with a new rule now. Hosts + team of country with highest population (or something else equally convenient) + top 3 of the league will qualify automatically.

Indian women just got thumbed by SA women at home. About to win the 5 match ODI series 4-1. Remarkable effort.

Been a pretty ordinary performance from India.

Surprised at Lizelle Lee's consistency. If she continues to bat like this proteas are going to be more dominant. Despite missing players like Van Niekerk, Tryon they have performed pretty well.

Why even bother. Just say "yeah India have to qualify, deal with it"

What's the worst that would happen, really

Honestly, have thought the South Africa womens team have been somewhat underrated for a while now, plenty of quality experienced players, and this recent series with a few key players absent at various times suggest that there is decent depth available too.

The bowling attack especially looks genuinely as good as any in the womens game when at full strength

It's been good to watch the India/S.A. series live here in Australia, as well as N.Z/England series.
It's probably the first time if my memory serves me right that we are getting neutral Woman's cricket not involving Australia on Pay T.V., and that can only be a good thing for the sport going forward.

i'm all for a thread for women's cricket on a par with the emerging nations threads but maybe it should be one where everyone agrees on the first page that it doesn't have a future?
There are quite a few women's cricket threads floating around in CC

Find the oldest one with a decent OP and then merge all the threads made after that together IMO.

I think we should also start tour threads for women's cricket in CC, like we do for any other tour.

Great finish. Laura Wolvaardt seems to have more trouble fixing her hair than she does with the Indian bowlers. LOL.

I think its part of her routine, she does it a lot. Seen her many times do it
